Summer sambo jigging
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Mon, 2012-10-08 21:24
Well I fly back out for work tomorrow for another two week swing and by the time I get home the demersal ban will be in place. I've taken a big interest in jigging in the last 6 months or so, but with the demersal ban looming, I'm not sure where to start targetting sambos. Can anyone point me in the right direction or perhaps even give me some gps marks. This isn't a question I'd normally ask, but as its sambos and not prized table fish I guess it's a bit different. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to pm. Cheers

Sambos!
Hi mate,
If sambos are what your chasing then perhaps try the barges/wrecks behind Rottnest Island. The GPS co-ordinates are on nearly all good marine GPS charts. Sound over top of them and see if there are any fish on them. If there isnt then just move to the next. There is already fish on some of these wrecks and are worth a go. Just be aware that there are alot of sharks around these areas too. If you get sharked its best to just move to another spot as losing gear and killing these awesome fish are not worth it.
There is shallow water spots all around that will hold Samson fish though this is where you will need to do the leg work yourself. Look for sudden rises generally anything over a 2.5m rise is a good start. Just be sure to work your jig fast so you dont accidentally hook a demersal. I was fishing with my mate Dylan last friday and we found fish in less than 40m and landed some cracker fish upto 30kg on 20lb spin.
Feel free to PM the shop or drop in when you get back from work and we will try to give you a few more tips and tricks on where and how to catch them.
Cheers
