 Paul, you are an absolute

Sun, 2013-05-26 19:38

Paul, you are an absolute legend mate. Haven't got a dhuie in years and had three (albeit smallish) before the sun came up. Although I did shed a little tear when you suggested I throw my first legal one back over the side, even though it was obviously the right call in the end.

Learnt heaps today about rigs, location, drifts etc etc. Was an invaluable experience, catching some awesome fish was the icing on the cake. I seriously could have gone home a happy man when the sun came up.

Thanks also to Vinnie and Mike as well, good company and great blocks (and blokes). I am off to cook up some pinkie...

Thanks again.

Jarrid

Sun, 2013-05-26 21:00

Well done boy's thats some awsome fishing for the day.. You killed it, we went out today south of rotto and bled big time got back into point perion boat ramp had a sqizz in the frame bin and there would have been 1 dhuie frame maybe 50-52cm, there wasn't much talk on the radio either so you guy's done really well.

What a morning!

Mon, 2013-05-27 07:51

No doubt just another morning out for Paul but fishing on another level for me.

Amazing knowledge that Paul has built over the years fishing and diving this area, its pretty cool pulling up on one of his spots and having the bottom described in such detail.

Yes the look on Jarrids face was priceless when he was told to put back his size Dhuie early on!

Thanks for the trip Paul, Ive learnt a lot from this and appreciate the advice.

Jarrid & Vinnie - great to meet you!

PS got to love Fishwrecked!

Hi PaulGreat post - but

Mon, 2013-05-27 07:55

Hi Paul

Great post - but confused the hell out of me.

I fished out of 2 Rocks yesterday and went to an area we had succesfully fished on 3 occasions in the last few weeks. Sounded around close to but not on the same spots and found what appeared to be great ground but had absolutely no success. Didn't even look like the same ocean you were fishing on. We had non stop whitecaps all day. Did manage to hold bottom though with a decent Para Anchor.

We were fishing about 18 NM out of 2 rocks mostly on top of the bank and final tally for the day was one under size dhuie (released off course) and a few hook ups which got off plus wrasse and other S fish

This is just after I was beginning to get a bit more confident that I was getting a little better at catching more regularly

I think next time you make a deckie offer, I better stick my hand up real quick and come and learn something

Cheers

Eric

Thanks guys.Yes was  touch and go for a while. Jesse bailed as fishing of 2rocks no longer hits the spot for him .Bloody spoilt. I too have not been out  unless at the Abrolhos or jurien bay.Which is most weekends. Was good to meet three great guys all are welcome to join me anytime i have room .Its always a little worrying taking new crew As i am a little fussy on who i spend my time with .Im glad they learnt something new,I to am still learning .but am always happy to help out if i can. Its great to put people onto fish and watch them catch a few.Anyways look forward to the next trip.  Heading north this weekend find some real fish.

well done on a great day but.....

Thu, 2013-05-30 20:57

i am going to say it, is it really sustainable fishing catching 9 times the dhuie boat limit? i know undersize dhuies cannot be avoided and are returned with least amount of harm giving deco stops on the way up, may i ask what depth you fished?? i understand you (Paul) have done quite alot of tagging and recaptures have been very good but they aren't 100%

I had seven dhuies  under 300mm that day, only one needed the release weight.we were in 35-42m Fish were all in  good condition .We all have our thoughts on catch and release. And all /most do there best to look after and return there fish safely to the ocean.I will continue to fish the way i fish ,And it will piss some people off.But thats life.

Stop talking

Mon, 2013-06-03 10:05

This bloke up you guys,

When you catch fish, it's great fishing by the fishos, when you don't, the skipper is crappy.

Well done all on board looks like it was a great day.
