Sunday fishing hale reef

Well, what good weather it was. Between that and the cold beer is about as good as it gets.

Got to the ramp at 7am with the sis and her BF on board. Launched th boat.  Tried to start the boat, wouldn't go.  New fuel, oil topped up, fresh charge on batteries, had spark, but no ignition.  Took 20 mins of profanities and got it going.  She ran sweet after that.

Powered down to the reef, anchored, burleyed and my mate (on his boat) pulled up an undersize dhu within 2 mins.   About 40 mins pass and no more fish.  No wrasse even.  We moved to about 4-5 different spots with the same result.  The sisters bf got the only fish o the day worth noting.  A 50cm KGW.  Terrible.

Tried some trolling in close for tailor, had 2 good strikes but no hook ups.

Loaded the boat on the trailer, get to the wash bay and my hose was completely split, not to worry, finish that off at home.

Get home, unload all the gear and notice the top 2" of my new jigging rod (never caught a fish) has snapped clean off.

Shit day.  Over it.

Next time will be better.

We had one of those days on

We had one of those days on Thursday... Tried around the 3 mile at a spot where we've always got skippy and some by-catch... Nothing! Tried a few other spots for the same result... Maybe a few wrasse and that was it... Got the anchor stuck and spent a while retrieving that. Then decided stuff it, head in close for some squid... Managed 1 squid!!

Oh well, beat a day at work.

Will have to try the hale rd reef one day, hearing alot about it

got to agree with everyone

got to agree with everyone about my day.  it was still better than a good day at work.  I honestly just love being on the boat, whether having a beer, cruising around, or trying to catch fish.  something about the ocean, it's just really soothing for me.  Maybe I was a fish in a past life..  who knows..

With the talk of Hale Road

Mon, 2013-07-01 15:28

With the talk of Hale Road reef, I have been trying to pinpoint it on the charts for the future to try.  Looking at some charts, am I correct that most of the area, anchoring is prohibited and fines apply?  A submarine cable runs through the area?

Depends on the section.  Just check your charts when out there.
