Surf Rods: Lures and Bait

 Hi All,

Been looking at the 12' PENN Prevailo 8-12kg.

Its rated for 20-85 grams. So good fro lures

But will it be able to cast herring fillets, whiting and what not?

Can you get rods that do both? Or are they generally separate beasts.

Thank you

12 foot rod is difficult to

12 foot rod is difficult to cast lures with. You can do a few casts but the amount of effort required makes cast after cast very tiring. Having said that you can peg a 50 gram slice past the breakers. Is it a lure rod you're going to be setting the occasional bait with or a surf rod you want to occasionally cast lures with?

Good day mate. We have stock

Good day mate. We have stock of the Prevail in both new and older models the heavier rated one and lighter model.

The rod you are talking about is fine for lures

It will struggle with big baits like you talking about with a heavy sinker (4oz and up). We would say look at the heavy 12ft 12-20kg or 15-37kg rod for bait fishing and the softer model for your lures.

You will get 10% with your FW discount.
