sustainability

heard a RUMOUR that one of theTWO trawlers working off canal rocks got 8 tonne of nannys the other day . seems fair i spose as we have  A CLOSURE to reduce pressure on certain species is 8 tonne possible ? if so that would equate to roughly 3000 fish? or 2 fish a week for one person for 28 years or 28 fisherman catchin 2 every weekend for one year WTF .! surely as a rec fisherman we put more back into the community WTF? good on u norman SUS  tainability LIKE I SAID heard a rumourYell

This is crazy. How can the ban on rec fishing be of any benifit when the pros are doing this. At least in the metro area the pros are made to fish the deeper water.

Nets of any kind not only kill every thing in there path but destroy the ground as well.

After doing many dives in the bay the past damage from pros is clear. Most of the 4 mile has been  flattened.

Pro fishing has to become a thing of the past and more effort should be put into aquaculture.

Miss-Management of our Fish Stocks

Fri, 2009-11-27 08:49

There is a lot of concern down south with the amount of fish being murdered by the extra pro boats now they can't rape the metro region with their murdering nets.
Heather Brayford, director of Aquatic Management, Department of Fisheries stated in one of our local papers in the past week or so that the new "restrictions are in place for all", she is right, they are in place for all of the murdering Pros not the normal everyday recreational fisherman. All the bullshit spun by Jon Ford in the beginning and then Norman Moore and the miss informed Fisheries Department is NOT and I repeat NOT doing a bloody thing in the conservation of our Demersal species while these miss-guided miss-informed clowns follow these set of rules, letting the Pros rape and pillage with their murdering nets. The Government( Labor and Liberal) spent hundreds of thousands of tax dollars trying to convince us that we the Recreational sector should not take fish during this prime spawning period, so why are these murderers still rapping ???
Another Question for Ms Brayford of the fisheries, how many other fish in the Demersal species are these murdering Pros taking during one of the main spawning periods NETS DO NOT DISCRIMMINATE THEY KILL EVERY THING. My main concern are WA's Dhu Fish as their main spawning times in the southern part of the state is November-December through until April according to the Fisheries "Fact Sheet 3". Allowing murder on this scale is not Conservation it is absolute stupidity, when are the so called informed ones running this shambles called the Fisheries Department going to realize murdering fish and taking whole schools of fish with nets during spawning is plain stupidity, WAKE-UP DICKHEADS!!!!!!

nice comment blackbetty doesnt it sit well in ur gut   i have a mate who i fished with quite a bit and was wetlining bloody good fisherman but u cant make the fish bite. he got out of it now anyway but as he said to me wheres the research data to even prove the speices r under threat. he has sat in every meeting the pros have had with fisheries . some of the spots he has got just blow me away with how many dhuies show on the sounder sometimes ten meters thick , football field sized schools of nannis.  why cant we as amateurs catch a feed when they allow gill nets and trawers to plunder one in all in i say closed season - closed to all , buy the netters out  and sanctuary zones changed over mayb every 5 years mayb even allocate us all the same amount of days each year as the pros

sit well in my gut.  Don't worry the pros in Leeman will be killing it at the moment as well.  Think there is 3 in Leeman at the moment but are all wet liners or drop liners no nets.  I hate nets, they should ban all nets for pros and amateurs, hate nets with a passion, sorry guys but you just have to watch the Trawler men on SBS and see what they catch, lose nets, which then become a danger to all forms of sea life, then because they've caught their quota of fish, they have to throw dead fish back into the sea.  Some of those pro nets drift for years in the ocean, killing turtles, dolphins etc.  Fisheries and stormin' Norman all need to listen to us the amateur, all should have been out for the two month ban, everybody pros and amateurs, then it sure would have been fairer.

Wonder if those Nanny's were a big school getting ready to breed if so they just murdered the lot

first post on here guys ........in regards to  the trawler issue ..............

there is a 90 odd foot  deep water trawler licenced out of albany that is currently home porting in bunbury at the fishermens wharf .............it is full licenced to take the species it is targetting ...........they are fishing south west of augusta in the 80 -100 metre mark ......well south of black point , so they are not covered in the west coast management plan ......all perfectly legite .............targetting nannygai , gurnards and leatherjackets ,and sundry by catch  i went down to the wharf about two weeks ago and had agood conversation with the deckie , who was happy to chat and show me around their set up .......i havent heard or seen any of the key demersal species like dhufish in the catch ......... fisheries have done an  inspection on their set up etc  .....they are trawling the mid depths , not the bottom ..........im not defending them , but they are legal ..................and covered under their licence

send  letters or emails into the fisheries dept, ministers office , and your local mps,  or recfishwest if you feel strong enough about these fishing methods and demersal gill nett .it does get read and heard ..........

its up to us rec fishos to make the rational comments  in the right ears and get this reviewed

cheers hezzy
