I need to install another switch panel on my boat. Do i need to run a new power cable from the battery or can i loop it off of the other switch panel. Cheers
You can just run it off the existing supply cables, but keep in mind that if you are adding more devices to the circuit the volt drop on the main cables may become excessive.
Cheers guys good advise. I'll run a seperate cable for the new switch panel. I will be operating an LED spotty and bar light so a seperate cable may be the go.
Don't forget you need to run 2 cables, a power and an earth back to the battery negative. When I rewired my boat, the earth had been run through the hull (ally) which is a big problem. Luckily I can't seem to find any evidence of electrolisis.
I have now wired in a positive and negative busbar up at the bow, so any additional elctronics are easy to add.

Wire gauge
I would expect it depends on what you intend to run from it and how heavy the gauge of wire is for the existing feed from your battery.
All comes down to how may amps you will be drawing from the supply. Once you know that you can make a call if the existing wire is man enough or not.
Cheers,

All depends how big the wire is and what you plan on running off it.
