Tailor Recruitment Angling Survey.

The covering email for the letter below addressed to the volunteers said "please feel free to distribute it to others ...who might like to come down for a fish."

Contact Mike Hammond, Fisheries Research, 9203 0111 if you would like to be involved.

The tailor recruitment angling survey for the 2007 season is about to begin. This research program, which has been running for over 12 years, helps us examine the abundance of juvenile tailor in the river. In turn, the program gives us an understanding of the strength of the recruitment of tailor to the lower west coast population each year.

This year we will be reverting back to sampling only at Point Walter on Tuesday evenings. We hope to continue a reduced sampling program at Floreat Beach but this will occur on an ad hoc basis depending on weather (roughly every fortnight). If you are interested in fishing at Floreat Beach and will be available at a short notice please let us know.

Please refer to the timetable below for the times and dates that we will be fishing each week. Due to daylight saving we will be starting a little later than usual during the first few weeks so please take note of the relevant starting times.

As usual, light refreshments will be provided on the night. Prizes will be awarded at the end of year BBQ to those who caught the most tailor, landed the biggest and smallest tailor, and who contributed the greatest fishing effort. Thank you for your loyalty and co-operation with this study, we hope to see you on the opening night.

Call Mike Hammond, Fisheries Research, 9203 0111 and let him know you're interested in fishing Floreat if/when they decide to fish there.

Not sure if he reads this forum.

There are still heaps of river tailor about too. Someone I spoke to the other day said they caught and released 60 out in the boat off Point Walter, even had birds working the school!!

Don't know what happened last time, but certainly not going a 5am start for river tailor again! Might just have to keep an eye out for a good arvo and see if the birds are working to show us where they are. Might go down for some reconaissance over the week at said X spot to see if I cant find any.
