Hillaries!

Mon, 2007-10-29 16:24

I went to Hillaries yesterday and all I got was those Yellowtail, Small Skippy (like real small) and the odd Herring here and there. I fished it with the tide coming in but I don't know what wall I was fishing on. I fished the long wall which you have to do abit of rock hopping, went right to the end and yeah no Tailor action on Metal Slices or Snapback softplastics. Was a quite day. My first time fishing there though!

Better in the evening or at night, used to fish the south rockwall quite a lot and caught loads of herring, gardies, and other baitfish like sardines, yellowtail, scads etc.

But rarely caught a tailor there, using slices and mulies.

Yeah was there about 2.30pm

Mon, 2007-10-29 16:44

Yeah was there about 2.30pm - 3.00pm due to bodyboarding committments and only armed with Softplastics and small 5 to 15g slices. We stayed there until 8.00pm and still no Tailor action even if I put on a small gang and slice of a bit of fillet from the Yellowtail and still no Tailor. Next time I go there I might go there in the morning and try to fish the reef near the car park.

If you fish the right spot

Mon, 2007-10-29 16:48

If you fish the right spot and right times i could almost garantee you a tailor from there anytime you want! Now and the next few up coming moths are prime time for some good tailor. I caught and released 12 at 30 odd cm the other night no problems! You must be prepared get alittle wet if you know what i mean ;) Rougher the better at hillaries for tailor! Dont use metals over 30gms they wont work and only very small mulies or halfs will also work. My favorite lure at hillaries well i just cait bluddy tell ya! lol. hahahaha

Ohh man I got wet. Lost me

Mon, 2007-10-29 16:54

Ohh man I got wet. Lost me burley bucket but managed to retrieve me bucket but not the burley. I think I fished the North Wall I don't know. When I parked the car in the little lot behind AQWA we turned left and went all the way to the end! So I think I was at the North Wall. But yes, I did get absolutley drenched from chest high, luckly I got reef shoes on and a wetsuit.
Why can't you tell me about the lure? It really cut me deep when I saw "My favourite lure at Hillaries" then I see "I can't tell ya! lol."

Everyone has there little secrets mate!lol. I fish there aleast once a week and do very well on the light gear. Head down there on a nice glassy day and wear some polaroide sunnies and you will find some good areas to fish for tailor.

PS: dont walk to far ;) lol. hehehehe

Things best learnt the hard way

Jangles, you can't expect everything to be given to you on a plate.

Sure you might get some nuggets of advice every now and then but nothing beats the satisfaction of working things out for yourself.
