Teleflex BayStar Hydraulic Steering

 Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience with Teleflex baystar hydraulic steering? I was looking at buying a kit from ebay (aproxx $600 delivered) to replace my old push-pull steering. The current steering works it's just quite stiff and heavy and I would really like to upgrade to hydraulic. Is anyone aware of any problems with this brand of steering or any advantages or disadvanges?

Thanks!

What size engine is it for ?

If it is for a 4-stroke motor go the better hydraulic steering. The 4-stroke motors generate more torque at initial thrust i have been told

Got Teleflex on my boat and never been happy with it. Constantly leaks by the seal below steering wheel. I have replaced the seal and its good for a couple of seasons but then it starts again... normally when I'm away on holidays. I buy two seals at a time now.

Spend a bit more..  You will get what you pay for and you don't want to be doing it again

I had baystar steering on my last boat, i ended up blowing a ram seal, was easy enough to source parts with the ease of international shopping these days.  seal blew on the ram after about 5 years of heavy use, apart from that no other issues to report.

Baystar is only rated to 130 hp i think. Many people have issues when its on bigger motors.
