Running two transom mount transducers side by side question

Hi all

Bought a new sounder and tranny (Airmar 1KW) and will be installing it over winter when I get the chance . I have a lowrence combo on at the moment with the small 600kw trans on the transom and removing a Navman Sounder/tranny.

Will mainly be running the lowrance as a chart but also back up sounder if need be. Its an Ali boat.

Just wondering if I need to take anything into consideration when installing ? .

Am thinking more around interefernce between the two. Should I be installing one on port side and one on starboard or are they OK to run side by side?

All help / thoughts appreciated.

If your not running them at

If your not running them at the same time it doesn’t matter what layout you have but if your running them together you cant have them on the same frequency regardless of position and layout. I would be more worried about getting a good reading ie location as ali is renowned for ribs ect. We have two trannies on either side of an ali and they work well.

i have a hads 7 combo and a furuno 585 and i run mine at the same time with no problems! but dont mount them side by side! i have mine on opposite sides of the boat! the best way to mount it in the right position when transom mounting is to take your boat for a run get someone to steer whilst you look over the transom look for the clearest bit of water as it flows from inder the hull mark it and mount your transducer there! for height make sure the bottom of the transducer is just below the hull!

tricky question about running them at the same time, depends on who responds. as mentioned , you can run them together but not side by side, i have done this before with a 585 and humminbird, there may be a slight bit of interfeerance which i experienced si i turned off the sounder side of my combo. i had mine about 600mm apart

Opposite sides set interference rejection on backup to high and should have no problem

HDS and Furuno

I have a HDS7 and Furuno 620 installed.

I have both transducers mounted on the same mounting bracket, about 100mm apart.

This seems to work OK.

Interestingly it didnt work with the Furuno and a Lowwrance LCX unit. Not sure if this is something to do with the broadband sounder used by the HDS?
