Telstra mobile phone data

I'm with Telstra for my mobile phone as is my wife. We have noticed in the past 3 weeks we seem to be using our phone internet data a lot quicker than we have in the past and we are not using our phones anymore than usual. I was talking to a workmate and he was saying the same thing. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing?  I'll be ringing Telstra to see what they say...

I have seen a couple of similar posts on Facebook. Try the Telstra Facebook page and look for some  similar problems

If you use facebook, make sure you have auto play turned off in the settings. My offsider's phone started using more than usual data and that's what it was, auto playing all the vids in his newsfeed.

Going to Telstra shop today to sort it out

If it’s only just started most probably a telstra update that’s causing it . Adding more bloatware crap apps running and downloading in the background .. I downloaded the Battery Doctor App which stops all that and it also doubled my battery life ..

Happened to me once

Fri, 2015-05-15 16:01

Something downloaded and my 1.5G usage/limit went up to 9G. WTF

I rang them saying I wasnt even using it, and they said it was an Phone update. But I never pressed anything to cause that to happen. Had to buy extra data packages ($60) to cover this, with a refund. The bill for the extra data used was ~$600, which I had to pay, then refunded in the next bill, which turned into a negative Bill, which again effected the next bill. So got it back in 2 months so to speak.

BUT - the data packs kept coming. Once you buy them they stay attached to your bill unless you cancel them, which I didnt know. So payed an extra $60 for 2 months until I realised when the non negative bills came through. Still cost me $180 for some stupid download that I didnt approve!!!

turn off background data

Fri, 2015-05-15 21:05

make sure you turn off all your background data in your phone settings. Easy to do. You can also check that all your apps are not running in the background which also uses quite a bit of data.
