Thevenard island land based

I have the opportunity to be able to fish on thevenard over the next couple of months. I was thinking of taking a 3000 Shimano with 10-15lb line on something around 7’-7’6”. Should this be heavy enough to cater for most fishing around the island?

I can drop it a bit lighter but I am keen to hear someone’s thoughts. Has anyone here fished land based there before?

hi mate , whilst i havent been in the last 10 years i have been about 7-8 times to Thevenard and although boat based most of the time we would get a lift down to the south end on the windy days and wade the flats for spanglies, queenies and goldens etc all around 1-4kg so id go 15lb braid and a 7' stick should be perfect , some great afternoons had wading the flats there .

I think you'd be right for most stuff you'll encounter. You can use a lighter spin outfit (bream type outfit) for the smaller queenties and trevs etc.but a little heavier like suggested will be perfect for the bigger ones you encounter. Whilst most of the shore based stuff usually happens because of wind, there is some great fishing to be had so you'll have a ball!
