Time to spoil myself! Barcrusher!

Hi to all fishwrecked members!

A little intro about me and also a rant (some call it venting). A super keen fisho from the east coast who moved to WA in 2004. Previously owned a boat over east and when I moved here I built a new house with side access which I specifically designed to be able to park a large boat. Long story short but ended up with a huge debt (1.2M) due to building a second house with the purpose of selling the 1st one and moving into the new house. Thanks to the GFC I wasn't able to sell either house which meant no life and having to work 70-80 hours per week to make ends meet. This meant no boat, no fishing and no nothing excpet work, work and work. Finally in 2012 I sold the 2nd house for a gut wrenching loss of 250K but at least I get my life back. Just as my life was on the way up again my wife decided to have an affair in early 2013 and we separated. Thankfully no kids are involved which just would've complicated things even more. Now officially divorced, another 100K worse off (having to pay out the cheater thanks to our pathetic legal system), limited friends and I'm starting all over again. Its been a tough ride of 3 meter swells and 30 knot winds for the last 2 years but its time do the things I always wanted to do. Its time to buy that boat that I always wanted.

Today the wind and sea was as bad as it gets. I've always wanted to buy a Barcrusher and have only heard great things about these boats and they definitely are a great looking boat. I've never been in one before and I've heard people call them Ball Crushers so I had some reservations about them until I personally experienced one myself. Today I had the chance to go out for a test drive in a Barcrucher 730HT and geez was I impressed!!! I'm hooked to say the least.

Its now decision time! Which model and size do I purchase? If only I could afford the 730HT!!  Here are the models that I'm looking at in order of preference and was wondering if others had any pros and cons for these particular models as I'm doing my head in. I don't want others to start a debate over other boat brands and whether other boats are better etc etc. I'm buying a Barcrusher as I've narrowed my list of boat brands down to the Barcrusher.

670HT-My preferred choice but a very costly boat and am a little relunctant to spend that much. Need to park it out the front of the house which concerns me over the security of leaving it out the front.

670C-Cheaper and can possibly just get it in the garage with a few adjustments although not ideal due to length. Not sure that it will keep me totally dry on a bad day. Potentially it will have to be parked out the front of the house also.

615HT-Marginally cheaper than the 670C but will keep me dry. Ride quality marginally less due to physical hull size and weight being less than the 670. Will need to park it out the front of the house.

615C-Cheapest by far (around 20K less than 670HT). Ride quality not as good as the bigger versions. Should fit it in the garage but also not ideal due to length.

This is a big investment of my money (or should I say banks money) so would like any advice to help me with my decision. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Cheers, Kuzi.

Can't help you with the barcrusher, tim-o might be able to though, he has one.

Good luck and hope to see you on the water some time.

I wouldn't worry too much

Fri, 2014-12-12 16:55

I wouldn't worry too much about getting wet in the soft top models. Just add some clears to the front with zip up windows in them and problem solved.

If you can fit the 670C in your garage then that would be a pretty good bet. They don't look as sexy as the hard tops but functionally I don't think there is much difference between them. The HT would be a bit more top heavy so might rock around a bit more. Also hard tops can get hot in summer if there's no airflow through the cabin.

Also from what I've heard trim tabs make a huge difference on bar crushers, so plan on getting some if you can.

Getting wet from the sides

Fri, 2014-12-12 18:01

Its not about getting wet through the front as the top hinges down to close the gap between the glass and the top roof. Its more about the spray coming in on the sides. the HT also has a window in the centre section so you can solve the problem of being too hot that way.

Good point thought about the rocking around although I don't think that it would be a huge problem.

Definitely getting the trim tabs though!

Fri, 2014-12-12 16:54

looks as though all boats will more then likely be parked out the front so you may aswell go the larger one . my boat is out the front, i just make sure nothing is left in the boat overnight and its chained to the house and wheel clamped. i also have a padlockable outboard cover.

sounds like its your time bud so make sure you get the one you want

Padlockable outboard cover

Is it a totally new outboard cover or just a modification to the existing one?

I can't comment on the selections as I looked at the 780 HT and that where I stayed. I've only had it about 6 weeks but cannot be happier. Good luck on whatever you choose and hopefully everything upwards from here on in life.

This guys got it up pretty well right......Copy..Barchrusher advertise that their boats are very soft riding. As soft as a fiberglass boat. ?

That's what's called marketing!! Some believe it, some also believe that if you eat nutra-grain as a kid you'll grow up to be an Iron Man, or if you eat Weet- bix you'll play cricket for Australia!::) ::) ::)

...what part of, and I paraphrase, "I'm getting a barcrusher and don't want a debate over other brands or which boat is better" don't you guys understand?

Kuzi's made his mind up and is only asking for advice on specific barcrusher models. End of story.

Lock

Sat, 2014-12-13 05:43

i think you can get the barcrusher with lockable cabin doors. This means you can throw a lot of your stuff in there like life jackets, flares etc and leave the boat out front of your house. Probably wouldn't deter a determined thief but would keep a lot of them out and means less stuff to load/unload each trip.

This is also useful if fishing away. When I go to Exmouth I just leave all my rods in the cabin and lock them up.

I reckon it's worth some extra coin

Lockable Cabin

Sat, 2014-12-13 07:48

You would think that in this day and age Bar Crusher could come up with something better than 3 pieces of plastic for lockable cabin door. All this for $3800 on the 780 HT. Leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

Lockable cab

Sat, 2014-12-13 10:27

Shop around insurance first. I believe with my policy that if I had a lockable cab any contents would be covered, I don't so I have to take everything on and off the boat every time. (Fridge, chem toilet, flares, epirb, life jackets, etc) it's a pain

Thanks Andy for coming in and batting for me whilst I was unable to take the crease due to a tuff sesh earlier in the arvo   And apologies kuzi as my comment didn't have anything to do with your post. Good luck with whatever Barcrusher you go for. I'm sure you will be happy with it. You certainly have had a bad trot over the last few years and heres hoping for a better future for ya.

xmas coming late.

Sat, 2014-12-20 07:00

gday mate.. My crusher went in for i ts paint job yesterday and im like a little kid at xmas eve waiting for its delivery... Like a few others have mentioned, i most of your choices are going to be outside, so make the most of it and go towards the bigger end of the scale. If your worried about the security side of things, they do a pilot cabin (i t hink they call it) that would keep all your gear safe(r) inside.  Im not a big fan of the full lock up cabins, so i just went the HT, but set it  up so the bunk section is lockable and i can throw all my gear in there.

seems like Soooooo long, but not really

Sun, 2014-12-21 06:05

Gday mate..

I signed on the dotted line and put sale pending to sea trials on their demo boat whilst i was at the Mandurah boat show (10th Oct) then i think we took it for a spin the following week and signed the last of the paperwork on the. Which was around the 17th Oct. The original delivery date was about the 17th Dec, but i left for work on the 15th for a month at work. They gave me the option to try and rush it to punch it out sooner, or i could take delivery mid Jan when im home for my month off, which is what i done. Apparently mine took a bit longer than normal, as i made a few changes, and im going with a polished hull, not painted. so they apparently spend a bit more time sorting thru the materials and using the better stuff :-D

Long story short... 3 months. Which was a lot better than the 5-6 months + domestic transport from South Aussie, that the Surtees was going to take,

The new tub!

Sun, 2014-12-21 10:20

Well after much deliberation I found a used 680HT which was up for sale at the Barcrusher factory in Vic which they were selling for a client. I flew over on Tuesday to view it on Wednesday and purchased the boat. Saved myself over $20K instead of purchasing a new 670HT and don't need to wait for 3-4 months for it to be built. Impatiently waiting for its arrival at the end of January. Just need to find a car to tow it now. Haha

Its 1950kgs dry weight plus a 300 litre fuel tank. I'm guessing around 2300kgs with gear and fuel on board.

I was in there a while abck, and took a nice big black 730HT for a test run before signing my papers.. I can understand why the fella was wild if they have had it for a few months to fit stuff out to it..  I got some pics of the demo boat, but still not 100% sure on posting pics.
