Today's dive trip
Hi all
After the disappointment of losing my camera yesterday, we headed out to a different spot to try our luck with some crays.
Headed out from The Cut at 7am with my daughter and my regular dive buddy...we found some likely ground just inside a line of pots. The vis was excellent and the water conditions were great...but the crays were fairly sparce. First dive was in 12m and for the second dive, we moved into slightly deeper water....16m. The ground on the first dive was better than the second, but the vis allowed us to cover some ground quickly.
Managed to get a couple on each dive, with a total of 6 sized ones.....my daughter snaring her first cray!
Saw 4 juvenile dhuies and a baldie, along with a wobby, a large Port Jackson and a small black tip.
Sure looks like the crays have headed out deeper so we'll have to start looking farther afield now.
Was talking to a couple of guys back at the ramp and they bagged out yesterday in 10m so there must still be a few holed up in close.....nice if you can find them.
How did everyone else go today.....by the number of cars and trailers at the ramp again today, it looks like half the country is holidaying around Mandurah/Dawesville area.

Yesterday
You had a great day yesterday ca11um.
Were yours today as big as yesterday's monsters??
I reckon the juvenile dhuies knew that we wouldn't shoot them because they were hanging around....no sign of their big brothers though!

Just got back from a quick dive in 14m behind garden, only mange the one but there are a few still around but very flighty.
Was fishing last weekend in the 80m and the pro's were out there setting there gear!
PS, deep dive first shallow dive second.

Dive depths
Hi Brock O
I totally agree, and usually we do dive the deeper one first but we were hopeful of finding some crays loitering in the shallows.
If the pros are going wide, no doubt the crays will be out there soon.
We'll have to go and sound out some ground in deeper water (30m) if we want to get another feed soon. I heard from some divers in Mandurah that the crays are in deeper water (30m +).
At least you got at taste today!

Rusty, if you ever need a dive buddy send a pm, happy to travel if some notice is given.
Always wanted to dive the 30s for crays but am a bit of a air pig and love my bottom time, you really need to drop right on top of the good ground or its wasted time! a spare bottle hanging at the five metre mark would be good too.
Look forward to your next cray report!.
Happy new year, im set
