Toe-Rags

I`m sure we`ve all purchased an item at one stage or another that looks good, but just doesn`t cut the mustard according to the ratings listed. When buying off ebay it`s buyer beware, so if you find a Perth based seller you would expect that anyissues arising can be sorted out without freight hassles, WRONG.

Humour me please, i purchased an advertised 100 lb jigging rod and made an offer,(i really didn`t need another rod but thats beside the point) received the rod within2 days, great service so far. I decided to christen the rod with a calcutta 400 with 30 lb braid on it, first decent hook up and the fish taking drag, tightened it up some more and bang the top section of the rod snaps in two. High sticking was the cause according to the seller and thats as far a i got with any sort of correspondence.

Clearly the rod is not capable of handling the advertised line rating, i set my drags by digital scales so am well aware of the one third rule. For those about to say i should have bought from a local shop, i did spent over $1500 at bluewater prior to my trip, a jigging rod was not on my priority list hence, ebay.

After discussions over a few beers with some other anglers, it seems like this seller has advertised other items over the years as something their not.

I`m from the old school that believes what someone tells me, i need to harden up and take nothing for granted eh.

Any other aggrieved buyers out there ? thats my 2c for today.

I`m embarrassed i bought it, i can`t even make up a legit excuse, even after making a cheap offer. For those who know me i get " what the #uck were you thinking" as i just don`t buy crap. I can`t see a replacement forthcoming ( why would i want one?) prolly good for a light kids rod, money back FAT CHANCE.

I need to get out jigging and see a few rods in action, you can never have too many rods eh. Here`s a link if your interested.

I posted the below quote a few days ago

Sat, 2011-09-24 12:02

It’s from John Ruskin (1819 – 1900).

“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little.  When you pay too much, you loose a little money – that is all.  When you pay too little, you sometimes loose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.  The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it can't be done.  If you deal with the lowest quote, it is well to add something for the risk you run.  And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.”

It has many applications.  Sound familar?

when reading the feedback section about the seller, always click on the negative feedback, it's usually pretty informative.  Make sure you leave your own comment too, for other buyers.

You can provide feedback for the ebay seller, so others will be wary of him if he gets a bad rating.

 I gave him a positive

I gave him a positive feedback on the prompt service, and it was later on that the rod broke, i did a follow up feedback but you can`t change the feeback rating to negative. His feedback was pretty good and the braid i bought off him was ok. You live and learn.

Hmm as I said in PM, the guy

Sat, 2011-09-24 11:56

Hmm as I said in PM, the guy is clearly a dodgy operator!

I'd say there are very few geunine japanese jigging brands that are 6' and 100lb.

The guy is a clear bullshitter saying the rod is bi-backbone, which is why you can use it for spin or overhead. Backbones are a blank production fault. How would you make two faults on exact opposite sides of the blank?

If they really caught a single 90lb sambo on it, why isn't there a single picture? Why is there a picture of a wahoo caught on a trolling rod?

Its probably about as japanese as I am!

I personally would have some very serious doubts about how good the braid really is, if you read on this site: Paulus Just Fishing: line tests, their 50lb broke at 30lb, the other "strengths" are untested.

Thats a first

Wow, a bi-backbone blank, thats the first time ive ever heard of that one.

Definately sounds like a false claim, dodgy seller i think ..

I have bought some cheap gear of E-Bay and have had mixed results. I dont realy bother anymore and just stick to known brands or local tackle stores.
