Trailer Brakes

 G'day

Comming home yesterday from the boat ramp, doing about 60km and my trailer brakes completly locked up leaving a decent black mark up the road and nearly 2 motors on the bonnet of a car behind me.Maybe 10 frantic minutes blocking the road they released by them self.Any ideas or help would be appreciated as i don't want this to happen again.

Cheers

Stab in the dark?

If these are on an electric brake system, One thing to have a look at is the breakaway switch. If for some reason that has activated or short circuited, the back up battery is supposed to hold the brakes on for approx 10-15 minutes.

Its a Hayman Reece electric brakes, hooked to a tandam trailer.Bennym that was my first thought, the breakaway switch had been activated but it seems okay. The battery is down about 20% also i had to back the boat in further than normal as i havent had it out for a while and it took sum getting off,no rollers (cat).Water was my first thought. But it all looks okay.

shorts

I had to have my entire trailer rewired due to shorts causing issues. When I put an indicator or head lights on,  it would activate the electric brakes . Took it to the auto sparkies who after a process of elimination rewired it and it now operates normally. Not sure if this relates to your issue but the electric brake controllers are apparently suseptable to shorts in the wiring.

 Gav475 Strange You say

Gav475 Strange You say that,When i put my right indicator on that morning the green indicator light didnt come up on the dash and as soon as i put it in reverse for the camera the radio went static.maybe gremlins.

Wasn't a good end to the day locked up in the middle of the road and at the same time the housing for the oil filter pump blew out on my f250.Managed to get one today for $750.

Maybe cheaper to sell the boat and go to the Abrohlos every couple of months

7 mtr leisure cat eoi.
