Transducer Upgrade for Furuno 585
Submitted by Pete D on Wed, 2010-07-14 11:14
Now that the old arm is all healed, it is time to head deeper to test it out - yeah that 200-400m stuff.
Therefore, I need to replace the standard 600W 'ducer with abit more grunt to find the ground and fishies.
Any real experience out there with suitable 'ducers for the 585 to achive this depth?
A brief google finds info on the Airmar TM260...or CA50/200-1T (which will need a MB100 to link to 585)...other choices?
Has to be transom mount as no room/or big work for thr' hull. Will be on the back of a 2052 Trophy Pro (Sterndrive).
Cheers Pete

The Furuno CA50/200-1T has
The Furuno CA50/200-1T has better beam angles; 28/8.5 v's the tm260's 19/6, but you have to pay a lot more for it! There is also the TM270W with dual 25/25, but it costs nearly twice as much =000

i have the 258 but it shoots
i have the 258 but it shoots a very narrow elliptical beam at 200 khz so at 30 meters depth , you're only covering an area roughly 1 x 3 meters.
the good point is you can use 200khz out deeper tho. i've used it out to 100 meters no problem.
however , if i was to buy again , i'd get the 260. better angles i think. 6 deg and 19
i think the 270w is too wide a beam personally
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Pete you know my
Pete you know my thoughts.
The Commercial CA50/200-1T unit has a better beam angle and has a bigger reciever surface area.
With a home made transom braket it can out perform any standard rec transom unit in the market.
if the head honcho at Taylor Marine recommends it. Then I use it!
I'm using my second one now and would only trade up to a 3kw wet face big brother of this unit. BUT it's the size of a small shit-house and would cause huge drag on a small boat like mine. I am looking at a way of keeping it above the water line when above 9 knots and dropping it in lower when at low speeds and looking deep. This does require a dual transducer set up and fancy wiring to the FCV295.

Yeah, agree with the use of
Yeah, agree with the use of CA50/200-1T, would be nice if someone could confirm its use with a 585 though.

Pete, on old Ugly Betty I
Pete, on old Ugly Betty I had a FCV585, with the CA50/200-1T and a matching box. Had clear view all the way down when she was out the few times.
On the east coast loads of game boats in Cairns and that region using CA50/200-1T's with FCV585, even on some big billie-boats.
Trust me mate.... ;-)
ps finished off the fairing up grade on my CA50/200-1T set-up, will put pics online soon.
cheers

Upgrade Furuno 585
You dont need that adaptor unless you wanna run both tdcr's 2getha
Airmar has just released a tm270 wide beam which is avail transom mount.
1kw get you down the say 300mt......
if you want 4-500mt i suggest upgrading the unit to a FCV295 with a 2kw tdcr

if you run a CA50/200-1T on
if you run a CA50/200-1T on the FCV even with only one frequecny connected, you still risk damage if no matchingbox in place. Trust me, I did a hell of alot of research before going that route.
I have just finshed off my set up on weekend and will put up a pic or two later today on my Berty write up.
cheers
