transducers for furuno

Any body tried or uses a shoot through hull transducer, have thought about installing one to see if it gets a clearer signal and less interferance, but was told the other day that because your going through hull it weakens signal dramatically, if any one has some advice it would be appreciated, have sold my last boat and having 6m centre cab built at present and if going down that path need to contruct box and access as construction proceeds
Thanks Brian..........

Brian I think you are going
Brian I think you are going to get extremes from both sides of the fence on this one.
I know a couple of blokes who have them and think they are brilliant. I, along with a few others have had nothing but trouble........But to clarify this it is more to do with the link bewteen the headunit and the transducer it's self. I was running a 1kw wetbox setup in a glass boat matched to 585. Spent considerable money for this setup but has been plauged by problems. From the info I have been able to gather, if your wetbox is positioned correctly you should lose less than 10% signal
Have a 1kw transom mount with break-away bracket coming, but may change to a 1kw tilted element which means drilling a big hole in the hull, but should solve any problems
Good luck which ever wat you go
Cheers Rick

transducers
saw this the other day in an old thread. If you use the search on here and type in transducers you will find heaps of valuable information from the members.

Have an older Furnuo FCV-581
Have an older Furnuo FCV-581 on my boat(5.8m plate alli). Originally had the transducer set up in a through hull wet box(as was recommend to us). Never worked properly, constant problems and ended up costing alot of money. This all may have been caused by incorrect instalation.
So then went to a transom mount break away bracket and works sweet, never had a problem with it now. Alot cheaper than the mucking around you do for the through hull ones.
