Transom 20" to 25" Rebuild

After shopping around for used Outboards it's getting fairly rare to find a late model 20" shaft.

A lot of dealers have suggested building up the transom to 25" to have a larger range of outboards to choose from.

So as some of you might know from recent discussions it's the old Chivers Thunderbird.
Has anyone rebuilt their transom on this or similar fiberglass to 25"

My main concern is changing the centre of gravity affecting how she handles and stability

So, have you or would you do it? or go with a Jack plate?

Depends if the transom you have is solid I'd question why you'd want to change it (your reason aside) given replacing the whole transom is a fair job but do-able.   Some type of plate setup may be a lot simpler as you mention. just wants to be solid (trying to picture how it would work - hard to know without knowing the current setup on the boat).  Wouldn't imagine it would change anything C of gravity wise other than a 25" is going to be slightly heavier.

Luckily they built the transoms in these models with solid timber rather than plywood so it's solid and tough

Had a chat to Chivers a few minutes ago and they said it's been done quite a bit without problems as long as the mod is reinforced properly
