Trim tab report

Well I fitted the QL trimtabs Saturday and was busting to get out Sunday but the weather was crap.Got home today and went for a run .Well happy to say the least.Heading sw with a SE 15-18knot wind sitting on 25knots with Lisa and Jesse on the wind side to give the boat a good lean. The motor trim to its max without cavatating. The boat was droping sideways into the troughs. And the bow lifting with each wave.I dropped the tab into the water on the port side and instantly the boat leveled up ,no dropping into the troughs as the tab held her level,a smooth flat ride at 30knots .I was shocked at the differance.I did not change the trim at all let the trimtabs do the work.the boat did pull to the starboard side when the tabs first hit the water but once the steering was corrected stright as a die.Very happy can't wait to give her a good test.

They are great tabs and I would have put them on if they were available earier.  Best thing about them is how compact they are, you never have to worry about them when getting back on board after a dive.

Yes a lot of money for a winch, but if I had one I would anchor alot more ,its hard work pulling the anchor in
40-45m of water.I am after the stress free drum winch no jaming.

have you tried the anchor

Mon, 2010-08-09 23:27

have you tried the anchor retriever. all you have to do is drive off and up it comes then you just pull the anchor in along the surface without busting a boiler

As Alfred said the compact

Mon, 2010-08-09 21:03

As Alfred said the compact size is great .I could not fit a standard tab as we would be always catching on it when diving. Easy to fit took 2 hours just make sure you don't put a blown fuse in the fuse holder ,as they don't seem to work when the fuse is a dud.

Haha trust me, you only catch on the trim tabs once. They are unreasonably f**king sharp.

Great to hear you got the setup working for ya!

I'm guessing Paul has the 300mm ones on a boat that size. There is a larger 450mm size too.

Anchor retriever

Tue, 2010-08-10 07:55

I agree with Russ, try the anchor retriever Paul. As the deckie i can recommend them 100%. We hav anchored in 60 metres & no problem gettin it up then its just a matter of pullin in the floating rope. At my age the skipper has to look after me so i dont see a problem for young Jess.  Let us know when your 'coffee express' starts up. LOL.  Rob  Cool
