TROLLING MOTOR FOR OFFSHORE
Submitted by chizz on Wed, 2019-02-06 15:27
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at getting an electric trolling motor so I can use anchor mode to fish offshore from Perth and down south.
I'm looking at an 80lb Motorguide or Minn Kota. Leaning towards the Motorguide as it links to Lowrance sounders. I have a 6m plate boat, its not a big 6m.
They sound good but I want to know how they work in the wind and swell that we get on the west coast. Are they worthwhile?
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks

I'll never buy another Minn
I'll never buy another Minn Kota. Went through 3 of them.
They aren't worth the extra coin.
Spot lock is a good feature but can move eratically in anything but perfect conditions.
I use watersnakes now. less features but less money and well built.
Haven't used Motor Guide so can't give and opinion.
I am interested in having a closer look at these though...

I have a motorguide
And it's the best bit of technology invented after sounders. I use mine in swell and big tides and works a treat. Only thing in swell I've noticed you need a bit of weight near where it is mounted otherwise the prop keeps coming out the water and then you move of your spot. I have a 5m boat and it works a treat.
It will completely change your style of fishing for the better.

Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback Guys.
I will go for the longest shaft so it is less likely to come out the water.
I will make sure there is a service centre in WA in case there are problem.
For now I really want a Motorguide so it links with my sounder.
Cheers
