2003 Yamaha F225 corrosion?

Have seen a lot of bad reviews on USA forums about corrosion issues on the early Yamaha 4 strokes, especially in the exhaust. I am considering buying a boat with this motor, just wondering if anyone in WA and Australia has had any issues with this, and if I should avoid this motor, anyone who has had first hand experience with this, good or bad, I would like to here your opinions.
thanks

If your concerned get it
If your concerned get it checked out. Money spent now may save you down the track. Its Certainly a good chance, the motors 16 years old now. Its also the corrosion you cant see or get to without pulling the motor right down would be a issue for me.

We had a client that
We had a client that purchased a yammi 115 from the states. Had a lot of salt and build up. We carried out a DESCALE and it hasn’t missed a beat in 2 years.

225
Have the 05 225. It had the exhaust issue prior to my buying it and the total cost of the repair and bits and pieces was abput 4 k. The motor has performed perfectly since and doesn't miss a beat.

Yep
Speak to Craig from Craig’s Marine in Carnarvon. I was talking to him last week about corrosion in the big Yammies. He’s actually cut one up with a grinder and it looks like the metal is mushrooming from the inside out . Pretty scary stuff .

not just Yamaha
The 2003 140 suzuki on my old boat corroded out and the mechanic said a lot of the early 4 strokes had issues with corrosion. Would def get a thorough inspection done on it cheers ACE
