twinpower SW

hey just wondering if anyone owns a twinpower SW and just want to know what you think of them ? have heard that they are pretty close performance wise to a stella , looking at getting a 12000 size HG  to use for highspeed spinning and just as a heavy landbased reel ,can get them pretty cheape online at the moment as well, alot cheaper than a stella

Twinpower SW 6000 pg

Tue, 2011-03-22 20:04

hey

Yeh i recently purchased a Twinpower SW 6000PG. Absolutely love it. Its a great reel. I've spooled it with PE2.5 YGK braid. I use it for SP and light jigging.

In comparison with the Stellas, they come close, though IMO stellas will always better.

If you looking for a reel for land based fishing, maybe have a look at the Shimano Sustains as they have a relatively higher gear ratio. Plus they are cheaper than the Twinpowers SW.

Hope that helps.

I have a small twinpower

Tue, 2011-03-22 20:13

I have a small twinpower 3000mg(jdm) and it is unreal! Also have a Stella 8000SWPG, which is really smooth and strong.

Although they are two different size reels, they are both extremely good at what they do. Even the small twinpower can pull up 5kg dhuies in shallow water. The big stella has almost infite power and a bulletproof drag.

If i had to choose between the two and money wasnt an option, obviously i would go for the stella.

However another option could be to get the twinpower or sustain with some carbontex washers, bump that drag up!

If you're paying almost $800

Tue, 2011-03-22 20:25

If you're paying almost $800 for a reel, why not just go the stella instead (its only a little extra in terms of %). The twinpower SW's just dont seem to be priced right for what they are IMHO. If you can get them a lot cheaper its a different story of course. (but then you should compare to stellas from the same source).

In the smaller sizes (FE), diff story though.

yer iknow what you mean but

yer iknow what you mean but you can get them for about 600 bux online right know compared to 900 for a stella if i was paying 800 for it then i would def go a stella i also like the 12000 size of the twinpower where in a stella you can get a 10000 which i dont think has the capacity that i want and then the next size up is like an 18000 or somthin which is too heavy.

Sale on twinpowers or that

Tue, 2011-03-22 20:43

Sale on twinpowers or that shop doesnt do stellas? The 10000's still hold 300m of PE5 if you pack it on (and no backing - as long as you do it properly), but yeah a 12000 size would be nice.

I've got a similar dilemma,

I've got a similar dilemma, the AUS stella 5000sw doesn't have the capacity I want, but if I get a JDM sw6000-hg I won't have warranty.

If you can stretch the $$$ get the 10000sw sell the spool and get a Studio Ocean Mark 'No limits' spool which has more capacity and arguably a better drag.

You'll then have good service & warranty when that monster fish kicks your ass and busts your gear (see PilbaraBrads recent post).

In my case I'm considering sourcing a sw6000 spool, but I think they are as rare as rocking horse s**t!

yeah a stella would be nice

yeah a stella would be nice but the twinpower would be as well i just cant justify paying an extra 300 bux for a stella 10,000 when the twinpower will probably do the job just as well and i wont have the line capacity i want on the stella , im wanting to get around 500 metres of 50 pound .

Would hold 500m of PE3/48lb

Tue, 2011-03-22 21:24

Would hold 500m of PE3/48lb though ;) What are you using it for? And again, you're comparing a sale/os twinpower to domestic stella :p.

Stella

Tue, 2011-03-22 21:18

Dont know if you seen the Sunday Times or not but Compleat Angler has the Stella 20000 for $979 10000 $849 and 5000 $749. Top value and great savings too.My Gf Black Pearl had the same decision a few weeks ago 8000 Twin power or 8000 Stella for an extra $50 bucks the choice was real easy.

Holy cow! which store? Nedlands?

I only bought an 18000 & 10000sw from Brian a few months ago and paid $1030 for the 18000sw and $980 for the 10000sw!

Looks like its a 5000sw for me then.
