Two Rocks

Gday All,

Just another installment of a report if you can call it that.

After me pss farting around all week about where i was going the decision was made to head to Two Rocks after i spoken to resident guru Paul G about the conditions and possible ground to go searching - Thanks for your help Paul.

So after me and the another forum member (jigking) purchased some bling during the week  (me a sustain 10000 with Tcurve and the JigKing with the ultimate mouth drool combo of stella 5000 with a fallinga limited jig rod) - and both the mrs completly off us, the jigKing more so with the threat of the water breaking anytime, we give it the she'll be right attitude and of we went.

looking forward to getting our new combos severely worked over we sounded around but not much flare ups all day, just settled on some reefy bottom, ended up getting a size dhuie on bait and on the 5 buk combo which was funny, plenty of Sambos and a nth west blowy which was built bigger than a brick sht house, there must have been some missiles out there because my mates stella and rod were buckled before he was snapped or the hooks were straigtened, i got to feel the power as one of them almost pulled me overboard. Was dirty on me not getting a hook up on the new combo.

The end of the day came and with us already being in the shit from the other half we thought we would dig ourselfes a little bit further in and decided to pull up close in crack a beer, cran the stereo and lobb a muley out, as usual the 5 buck combo came the party again and we had some fun with some undersize snapper, all in all good day out, great weather, good beer and few laughs.

PS - still chasing my 10kg plus Dhuie

couple of pics below but nothing special.

Cheers All Dan

Mon, 2013-07-08 12:10

what's it like heading out from 2 rocks?  i'm planning a day out from there in a few weeks.  just wondering on the ease of navigation and any potential hazzards to look for.

cheers

sorry Terboz - this was

sorry Terboz - this was friday, and the forecast was spot on the money, actually for once it was better than predicted.

Justo - we went in a 2 metre swell and it was very very easy, even in the dark - i could definately see the lumps rolling in the though, so id say go just on light for your first time and have a look at the sets.

Paul G is the best man to have a chat to and he is more than helpful - but i went the safe passage out as it looked good, you can also go just to the right of the north cardinal marker straight out in front of the marina.

fairly easy though you should have no issues as it all very visible.

what depths did you hit up?

Mon, 2013-07-08 12:25

what depths did you hit up?  looks like heaps in 30-40m worth hitting up.  but also lots of ground in closer.  30-40m looks about 20km out, is that about right?

use your GPS and you have a path out from tow rocks marina.

it gets to 40m 10km out from two rocks, that is what they call "inside the bank" and extends for probably another 10km to direction bank.

Justo we hit up ground which was about 30 - 40 metres of water, and your spot on about 18kms out, you have to search around though for the little break ups in ground we found.

with the condition so good we probabley should have hit the contours about 30km out, but we only had limited amount of info on the area.

always a quality day out uncle - the weather itself was enough.

I went out at 2pm yesterday

Mon, 2013-07-08 13:07

Went to a spot directly west of Gretel reef about 16km out where the 30 - 40m contours are. There were craypots all along the reef so we drifted through them, heaps of bites, I got a sergeant baker but not much else. The wind started picking up from the south and it got a bit uncomfortable, sure enough the Mrs started whinging so I went in dropped the lines over in 25m. the Mrs rod went off straight away big strong fish on the other end she got excited and started bragging as she's pulling it up and a bloody big fat horrible northwest blowie surfaced. She's never seen one before and couldn't believe it was a blowie. Sorry fella's she wouldn't let me kill it so its still swimming around out there waiting for ya! Cheers Dave

Two rocks is dangerous

Mon, 2013-07-08 14:12

if you dont know the area well and im still learning it. Ive only been out of there three times now and i keep making the same mistake of heading north to soon after passing the southern cardinal marker going along the lead line. it also breaks on your left in big swell before you get to the southern cardinal marker. The second time we went out we followed a cray boat out to the northern cardinal marker, there were breakers all around it was a bad morning and i nearly turned round and went home. you wouldnt want to be out there in the dark

I put the boat in at ocean reef and drove up a couple of weeks ago without any spots we just sounded around and found some ledges although we got a few Dhu's none were keepers but I fished some spots of ocean reef on the way back and it seemed pretty slow down there too
