Two Rocks sunday
Headed out of two rocks in a WNW direction to the 70m line where weve got a few dhuies and baldies in the past. We drifted SE with the wind and zigzaged between the 60 -70m depths with great looking ground for 1 sea sweep both of us using squid and occy baits.. Had a gutfull of that so decided to head into the 40's. My brother decided to start jigging and got a big arse giant cuttlefish on the first drop. A few minutes later he got a undersize dhuie on jig then I got an undersize pinky on occy. Not much happened for a while then finally my rod loaded up and it felt real good. Slow swimming but strong running fish hardly any head shakes taking alot of drag on my 80lb combo so we called it for a good dhuie then up came a bloody shark measured 1.4m. Didnt know what type of shark it was so released it, now that ive checked google i see it was a gummy and apparantly they taste great so should have kept it, anyway was not a great day for fishing probably the worst weve had out of about 6 trips from two rocks marina Did anybody else do OK in that area ?

Yeh I love eating fish but for some reason the thought of
eating shark turns me off I think its that strong "shark smell" they all have. If I catch another one Im gonna try it so how do you guys prepare them for best eating BBQ? Curried? Pan fried?

For shark I reckon a good
For shark I reckon a good beer batter then deep or shallow fry. Even spicy bread crumbs is great.
Preparation is key, bleed straight away (deep cut through the top of neck) then gut and make sure you cut out the brown coloured shit which runs along the backbone. When you get home just fillet and skin as normal. Hard to beat.
Gummy and small bronzies are my pick

deep fried, thoroughly bleed
deep fried, thoroughly bleed and gut asap and straight onto ice
can freeze for a few weeks before eating seems to help a bit too
if treated properly you wont taste any ammonia at all

Yep, beer battered gummy,
Yep, beer battered gummy, bronzie or wobby is absolutely delish! Caught a 1m bronzie a few years ago, cut off head and fins, gutted and then froze for a month. Had beer battered chunks on new year's eve - didn't last long!

best way to prepare sharks
best way to prepare sharks is knock them on the head with a waddy, cut the tail fin off to bleed, cut the head off this is where the horrible ammonia is,gut it straight away, put on ice within 10 mins, then when you fillet cut out most of the bloodlines, then you will have quality fillets you can eat,no use putting a deep cut in the back of the sharks head, this is waste in my opininion, the method i described also can be used on strong flavoured fish such as sambos etc

Nice fish
I love shark - and Joe is right - the quicker you get the tail off the better it tastes. One of the Hedland locals showed me this 40 years ago and it makes a big difference.
