Tyrnos 30 v 50

I've been looking into lb shark fishing and I've decided in a tyrnos but not sure what size to get! Ill be using it at places like woodies and down south Augusta region as well as north for ballooning at wagoe, gero and the like.  Any input welcome. Also how would you go about spooling it? braid with top shot, full mono etc...

cheers lads

Sheldon had a tyrnos 30 two speed up until recently had it loaded with 1000 metres of 60 lb tuffline and then had a 150lb wind on leader it handle sharks very easily I admit I mainly used it on a boat but it accounted for quite a few sharks and tuna as well has it on a wilson live fibre short stoker but I also had a wilson land based game rod that I had used the reel on and you could still cast will it reasonably well hope this info helps you somewhat

Ballooning

As said above Sand can play havoc.

Capacity, robust gears and Drag, would be the influencing factors. Seen a reel blow up on the first run.

If you are Ballooning and your balloon goes 300-400 metres out, you will still need plenty of line to handle the first run.

if you want a cast/balloon reel then find the biggest reel you can comfortably cast.

As mentioned 1000m of 60lb Braid with 150-200 m top shot  and 6m-9m leader /trace would be the answer.

I have 1000m of 60lb braid backing, 150m of 50lb mono and a 6m 250lb windon steel trace for sharks.

Rule of thumb:- your trace should be at least 1 1/5 times the lengh of the fish you hope to catch, unless you are casting, then it needs to be long enough to also go round your spool, 3-4 times.

Well u was thinking the 50

Well i was thinking the 50 with 400 odd meters of mono and the rest braid backing l. I assumed you'd want as much mono as possible for places like wagoe and steep with all the reef/ cliffs.

And there won't be much casting mainly kayak and ballooning the baits iut

yep you want the 50 trust me once you have all that line out in the water your retrieve rate is slower than a snail on valium only downside is it costs more money to fill up a 50 than a 30

Sheldon, I fished at wagoe

Sheldon, I fished at wagoe quite often and my outfit is a Wilson live fibre rod with a tyrnos 30 two speed reel spooled with 800m of 60 lbs varias braid and about 60 m of 100lbs mono and 2.4m of wire trace. Generally this outfit should suffice. The balloon is usually out to about 500m. I have caught and landed some big sharks and would have been spooled if I didn't set the drag to about 25/30lbs and sometimes having to lock the drag and hopping the line won't bust. A tyrnos 50 would give you the extra line but would add quite a lot of extra cost and weight. Good luck.
