prety rough. i thaught having a quiet drink while fishing go hand in hand . looks like now its hand in pocket for the fine. 

 On a lighter note how's he catching the occy lured out with a mulie then spears it ?? 

Those coppers should come up to Broome and clean up the crap on our local oval, the ones up here already seem unable to do their job.

 Off doing police work, won't  find any old folk getting beaten up down there.!

not sure how I feel about this one...
technically the guy was street drinking, and the cops were doing there job.
some may say its harsh, but where do u draw the line? a lot of ppl bring their kids down there to fish, if people know its ok to be drinking there, then how long til u have ppl drinking a bit too much, or smashed bottles etc...
seems very easy to bag the cops, but then again we do happily enjoy living in a fairly safe country don't we?
as far as revenue raising.... so what if it is? same wiuth speed cameras...we know the rules...don't break em and u wont get fined.... and where else are the police supposed to get their funding?? certainly not the government.... couldn't pay me enough to do what those guys have to.
anyway, just an opinion....

the beer by the looks was in a stubby holder so u couldnt see if it was a softdrink or not

always thought thats ok - eg king brown in a  paper bag etc

then a broke government might be putting the screws on the coppers to increase the fines

like all things in the media ..there has to be two sides to this ,

highly unusual for two cops to make a visit down to the marina like this and set out to book the guy imho ..

you would have to talk to the police involved to see if he passed the ''attitude ''test or not , he did admit to drinking the beer while there , so he has clearly implicated himself , which he did not need to do , he should have said nothing , or no , he opened it before he left home and yeh it was open , but he was going to finish it off when he got back home … all perfectly legit , no way he could be booked and it would stick

plenty of people drink in public places with no probs … so something is not being told here imo .. , could be wrong , but can only go on the normal experience , cops are not Nazis generally , ime

 it was finished and in the stuby in his pocket when aprrehended. Seems od the coppers were down there randomly. 

End of the day technically its a  law etc etc...

just be polite, keep your eyes out and remeber you dont have to self implicate.

 The cops were down there after a report of someone speeding around the car park. Of coarse they got there long after the offender had left. 

Yes it is illegal to drink ln public, but who dosnt have beer while they are fishing on the rocks or a jetty. Its also up to the police to use their descretion in a situation like this, they could have just issued a warning. 

So either the guy gave them attitude or they were just being wankers. We have only heard his side of the story so far.

It does seem a bit over board considering the amount of rubbish and mayhem i often see at places like this, and nothing ever gets done about that. 

 if you gonna have a brew while fishing keep it in a different container

 So beers on the boat would be drinking in public too. And out camping on the beach. Where is the line drawn? 

 What’s really un-Australian is not being able spell Austrtalian haha!
