Using two stroke in car
Submitted by chris raff on Tue, 2013-11-19 08:22
Just prepping the tinny for some crabs and still had 20 litres of 100 : 1 two stroke in tank ..which is over 6 months old . So renewed juice and transferred old mix to jerry can . Question is could I mix that in my cruiser which is around 3/4 full ?? with no dramas .. alternatively could I even get away with using with my 4 stroke mower . Don't want to have to dump it if I can utilise it somehow . Thanks in advance .

I would use it in the mower
I would use it in the mower and not the car if anything.

When I swapped outboards...
...ended up with around 60 litres of premix. Gave it to a mate who put it in (a little bit at a time) into his older, carbuerated, patrol. Apart from a bit of smoke, no dramas. Don't think I'd be game enough to try it with a fuel-injected motor, though.
Alternatively, you could keep the whipper-snipper going for a while!

just be carefull as mowers
just be carefull as mowers are air cooled and ur tinny motor would be water cooled, i just refill the tinny tank with fresh fuel and oil and fuel stabiliser and is never let me down so far and i only use it every 10 weeks or so due to work

Dirty , dirty fuel?
Mates , lets not all kid ourselves , most of our diesel ,and unleaded fuels , are not pure 100% anything!
over the years of swapping out fuel filters on cars , 4wd etc and pulling them apart , the crap that goes from those under ground storage tanks , tankers , hoses, and refinerys
could be way more harmful than a bit of 100 to 1 two stroke , then dilutted into 70-80 litres of fuel.
this is off a web site for a mob whom specialize in storage tank testing and cleaning!,( this would be the dreggs from the bottom , but even still?) pour away chris !!

A few conflicting views ..
A few conflicting views .. had a brainwave maybe putting it in the wife's car instead on the sly but she's quite meticulous about only using premium .. and there's a good chance I'd have to sit to urinate for my remaining days if she found out . Looks like diluting it slowly over time into the mower will be the go .

Wang it into the mower.
The mower is first pick. You won't hurt anything, it will just be a tad smokey. Try puttin 5 liters into the car, and mix 5 liters with 5 liters straight fuel to get 200:1 mix in mower. Do that twice and it's all used.
It's only oil, and just a tad at that.

Oil mixed in fuel then used
Oil mixed in fuel then used in a fourstroke will produce a lean burn, just like putting too much oil in the fuel of a twostroke. Old fuel and Im guessing was standard unleaded will be low on octane, so unless you like pinging in your engine, well......and in the mower, a low comp fourstroke, crap fuel and oil will aid in hard starting (no one likes pullin the bloody cord more than once) and fouling the plug. That 20lt mix is good for washing parts, starting camp fires or pouring on the neighbours cat and throwin a match at it (keep a bike chain handy to put the fire out)

Yep, but yeah, as said below,
Yep, but yeah, as said below, the amount added will do sfa, just being technical, some cars burn alot more engine oil than that in a tank of fuel. The age of the fuel and octane quality is more of a concern for the vehicle. Id be nervous to even use fresh std unleaded in anything, esp a motor vehicle. I got a late model V6 hilux and the tank of free juice it came with was regular unleaded, pinged its arse off all the way home till I added some octane booster.

Love the bike chain bit :)
My mate borrowed my chainsaw and ran 2 stroke boat fuel in it. The air cooled engines dont like water cooled lubricant and the chainsaw faarked itself. Anyway I got a new chainsaw out of him!

Just saying
geez , I must be bored........
Anyway worked it out quickly 90litres of landcruiser unleaded is 90,000ml of fuel
and the amount of oil in 20 litres of premix 100 to 1 is 200ml, so the dilution rate( 200ml in 90000ml) is the oil is 0.2% of the total fluid amount
so I stand by my opinion that some petroleum based oil present in your landcruisers tank at a rate of 0.2% is sweet f..... all
thank you mlaud , I rest my case.
right wonder whats on utube?

50:1
Remember putting bp zoom 50 in the old 253 vh commodore and I swear it ran harder, but not much. 126 kw standard, funny how things have changed.

fuel
Do this all the time, v6 comodore , ford ute, never had an issue. You may be supprised at the type of contamination fuel from the servos have in them.
Don't stress about it. Some people still add two stroke oil to unleaded as an upper cylinder lubricant.

Do it all the time in my crewman. Will be diluting about 25Lt of 60:1 mix with the same amount of straight ulp when I swap out the 13 year old johnno 50 for a new 60 Suzuki 4. Dealer says no problem either
