Vasectomy or not, that is the question.

Right, it's a painful subject I know.

We've got three kids, I'm 34, she's a touch older and that's it as far as adding to the worlds population goes.

The v word has been cropping up with ever increasing frequency, so quetions are:

Anyone had it done and have they had any bother with it afterwards?

Where in Perth can you get it, heard of some Snoeball guy in Nedlands, but he seems to offer only a certain type, anyone know of others?

This may be a bit embarrassing for some, I undersatand that, so if you want to PM me info that's fine.

I just need more info to make an 'educated decision'.

I do feel a bit funny though as it breaks one of my 5 essential life rules:

Never let anyone near down there with anything sharp

Had it done under a local and literally was in and outta there in an hour. Panadol for a day or so and all was good. Ironically the docs name was Dr Childs lol.

The procedure is the very least of your problems mate. The only thing that will change is your wife and her relief for not having to endure the responsibilty of birth control and the problems that go with that. I must admit I did suffer a bout of pneumonia shortly after my procedure but that probably had nothing to do with it.

I think your biggest problem mate is sorting out the issue of the future. If you feel very comfy in your relationship then this is a no brainer mate. Go for it and you will both be very happy I am sure.

The procedure can be done

Sat, 2010-04-24 21:09

The procedure can be done under 'local anaesthetic' with you awake, or under a general anaesthetic in hospital (asleep), or in between i.e. local with sedation (sleepy but not asleep).

Different docs can do them; some GPs, General surgeons (such as Mr Phil Childs) and Urologists.

If you have it done under local, the initial infiltration is suppose to feel like a kick in the balls, after that the cut is pretty small (1-2cm).

john

i had it done a few years ago now and had a few problems, the twins swelled to the size of golf balls and could not walk for days.

then every year for 3 years it kept coming back, they called it a thermo spermacider or something simalar that didnt sound to good.

aparantly it was to to with the way it was tied off? (leakage or some shit)

any way all has been good for 4/5 years now and i would do it again in a flash.

at the time we had 3 kids and every time i put it anywhere nere her she was prego, so fo me it was the right thing to do before i ended up with my own tribe.

good luck

p.s the thing i was most concerend about was getting the old fella a bit excited, then they brought the young tranee nurse in and it ran away and hid...ha.ha.ha...suprised me as well!

I had BIG problems!

Sun, 2010-04-25 08:16

I had mine done 20 years ago (after 4 girls I gave up on having a boy) under general anaesthetic That day I was fine but the folowing day my nads started to swell to the size of grapefruits...each one, I was black and blue from halfway between my knees and my navel! I called a doctor in the evening as i couldnt walk it took me 5 minutes to walk to the toilete the pain was so intense and I had to carry them
in my hands like a bowling ball! I almost cried from the pain, when the doctor came out he said "ooh they are quite swollen aren't they" they came good after about a week though.
but dont let this put you off HaHa! it's nothing compared to the pain more kids can bring LOL!

You can always get it reversed

If in tha future you decide you want it back.   Not sure if I will ever get it done tho!  Would rather tha wife always pregnant than having my ability to create taken away.

With a Avatar called Trousersnake I can understand that.

Less complications than clipping the missus. She has already done the hard yards with contraception, pushing a melon or 2 out. I am in the know and have had it. Piece of pie. And now you can enjoy sex without the worry.

So not too bad then.

I'd heard of problems after having both ends tied off, but apparently this Snowball guy is doing this new technique to only tie one end off to minimise side effects.

Could anyone link something to this Childs bloke or anyone else? I've googled him, but only found that he's a sailor boy from Hillaries.

What is the general consensus on price for this?

Thanks for the comments so far.

Don't rush in John

Keep this in mind and all you geldings listen up.

 1. Vasectomy is irreversible

 2. Decrease in sex drive

 3. Increase in cancer risks

 4. Clogging of the arteries [atherosclerosis]

Na no worth imo keep her on the pill.Undecided

Have seen a couple of those

Sun, 2010-04-25 16:48

Have seen a couple of those problems you mentioned outwide.

I know it is reversible, just they all don't succeed. I have considered obviously if we split up, but unless I meet someone who is so desperate for kids, I reckon that's me done. The only other consideration is obviously something happening to the kids, which I don't really want to think about.

The stuff I've read about sex drive says that it doesn't, I suppose people on here would be good to ask about that.

Not heard about the cancer thing, could you link to it please?

Not heard about the heart disease risk either, another link?

Dale - someone pm'ed me something similar - I think she's been through enough.

Good & Bad

Mon, 2010-04-26 08:20

Just to add my 2 cents worth

I had mine done about a month ago under general anaesthetic (advised by the doctor), and had the smoking hot nurse too. Anyhow my berries went two shades of colour......purple & blue and right hand side swelled up like a lemon and bugger me i was in agony for a week.

I wouldn't say not to do it, but don't let people tell you "It doesn't hurt"......what a load of crap! Sex drive........no loss in that department, when the swelling of the boys went down after maybe 10-12 days all is good.

Good luck and hope I didn't scare you off.....ha ha ha ha ha

Out wide

Mon, 2010-04-26 09:05

Just wrong.

It is reversible in most cases. Even if not IVF can still help with sperm cell harvesting. The longer the gap between the vasectomy and reversal the less likely success due to sperm antibodies etc.

It does not change your sex drive at all.

No increase risk of cancer.

And how can that clog your arteries?

Just wrong and scaremongering.

Why if the above is true would someone in the business have one. I dont want any of these risk, and have had none. More sex probably because of less chance of an unexpected bundle of surprise.

Sorry outwide

Wed, 2010-05-12 17:53

don't agree also.

I as a women have been to the vet, 3 kids and cesearans done, tell you what you talk about no sex drive, let you into a little secret.  I became very relaxed and really happy to do the tango with hubbie, absolutely no worries about falling pregant.

So you blokes if you want to do it, do it.  I'm told by a few male friends, its no picnic for about 10 days but after that their sex live gained about 600%.  You do have to wait till your sperm count does go under 10,000 then your wife can go off the pill or what ever contreceptive you use.  Whaooo your sex life will improve, trust me.

Honestly fellas women are more relaxed knowing that can't fall pregant, especially after you have  the children and have decided not to have anymore, all children are a blessing, but financially can be a drain on your marriage and pocket.

I had my tubes cut and tied as I didn't fancy taking the pill till after the change of life.

 Hi Ya,Know that story

Sat, 2010-05-15 07:03

Hi Ya,

Know that story too well.  Same here.

Tip - my youngest brother is a nurse and from his own admissions, ALWAYS do thing under local if you can.  Firstly, they are much more gentle with you and 2) they don't get up to naughty tricks with your bits. LaughingSurprised  He tells me one story of a guy well endowed that they tied a string to and pulled it every now and then during the operation.  Apparently had the entire surgery team in fits. Sealed (Happened in NSW).

Cheers.

Hi John the Pom, had mine

Fri, 2010-05-14 21:08

Hi John the Pom, had mine done about 9 months ago at woodvale, Same as Paul G.

The doctor was fantastic, I sat in the chair and watched him do it. The killer was the Gaf in the jatz crackers to numb them. after that it was easy.

Once it was done, just dont bend over for a while cos it feels like some one swinging from them down by your ankles for a few days, lol. they go black and blue for a little while but nothing toooo bad.

I called a specialist from a urologists mob and for me to be put under they wanted over $2000 or to sit in the chair $15000 but call woodvale medical centre and its about $350

I dont regret it.

niether does the wife cos they cant take the pill all their lives. It has an effect on them over the years.

Its a responsible husband who gets it done.

good luck

Thats a big swing in quotes fishaholic.  Crikies, you could tell the Mrs its 15000 and go and buy a boat.

Ive always been concerned about prostate cancer for blokes under 35 having the procedure. All that stored zinc etc..

The sex drive in some women though seems to increase after going off the pill.  It isn't all psychological either.   The pill seems to have a multitude of different effects on women such as weight gain etc..  After all the pill simulates pregnancy.

The pipes are tied

Hi

Best thing i ever did. I recommend having the general not the local. You do not want to see anyone cutting the family jewels. I was very lucky with very little problems at all. I went through a guy named Shane La Bianca out of St John of God Hospital in Murdoch. It is a 20 min operation and if you are lucky, you might get a really good looking surgical nurse to hold the tackle while the doc does his bit. I chose to have both ends of the vas deferens tied, then there is no chance of any small mistakes.

Good luck

Dave
