Watched a show on 7 Mate this morning and it was about snapper fishing in Port Philip Bay. The state government has bought out prodessional fishermen in order to get 1 million recreational fishermen out in the bay fishing. Could not be more different than this state government in that they realise the impact to the local community both health and economical.

No throw nets in Vic
Yep, left it out as throw nets are illegal in Vic , so can't compare. You can use them in QLD, NT and WA, but WA charges a $50 fee, while in QLD and NT it is free.

Ours are all rounded up
Ours are all rounded up nicely to $50. I wonder how they justify keeping our fees high and possibly raising them while they continually restrict our fishing. A Does anyone remember the cost of the RFBL when they first introduced it? they said it will never go up. The whole WA fishing system needs an overhaul in our favour!
Sorry to sidetrack the post, Nice work Victoria!

A lot of work has been done by the fishing lobby in Vic and the government undertands what a large vote getter the subject is.
They now work with (and Sponsor) the fishing shows produced over there to promote fishing.
The stocking program is the best in Aust by a long shot. Admittedly they need to as the local stocks aren't great.
It did help that the locally produced fishing shows all threatened to go public and call out how bad a job the government was doing if they didn't change.
Unfortunately we don't have that sort of media presence here. But we can learn a lot from what was acheived over there.
