Heya Guys!!
New to the website and have just spent 2 hours reading some of the posts, top shit!!!
i've recently just purchased a 4.55m quintrex and am heading up to Warrora Station (coral Bay) with it beginning of April to try my luck. was wondering if anyone could give me the heads up on what/how fish to chase. am looking to do fair bit of trawling for mackies and what not (if weather lets us out) otherwise just after some general info on the area and what else to target!!

Welcome to the site.
At Warroora you can expect anything from tailor off the beaches, whiting, spangled emps, black snapper inside the reef and red emperor, spaniards, cobia, wahoo, pinkies coral trout you name it from the northern species if you get outside.

Nice place, gets pretty busy from April on when all the grey nomads rock up, they are mainly at 14 mile. All beach launches and its pretty steep at 14 mile so might be better off launching further south. Download map on their website. Gotta have a chem toilet too, check in with caretakers at 14 mile to pay fees etc
Plenty of sanctuaries so be careful where you fish....plenty of spanglies inside and outside of the reef. Some good bottom fishing too outside. When trolling just look for the birds and you'll mind tuna and shark/spanish macks. Beach fishing is a bit hit and miss, like Coral bay, but generally the rocky headlands produce spanglies the most. Take it easy getting out through the passages, south one is pretty wide but north one can get a bit gnarly.

Pretty much spot on there woody,
Although if you can't land decent spanglies off the beach at Steve's there is something wrong, easy as pie.
Check the launch spots at Lagoon, 14 mile, and Pelican and see which one is for you.
Easiest to get outside at lagoon, but beach launching can be either very easy here or very difficult with a large shorey.
Take some decent anchor rigging and leave your boat moored and swim out if conditions are difficult.
Get gps points for sanctuary zones if you are to stay inside.

Had a mate word me up on 14 mile so thinkn i'll go there but may change me mind if theres a crowd of the old geezas!
Really wanted to take advatage of the boat so hoping the weather will go easy on us. And am pretty keen to get out past the reef, whats it like getting through the south passage at 14 mile??
ohhh and lures, any info on best types for trolling??

Just about any swimming lure....my personal fav is the Qantas lure (red and white Rapala) :)

Mate my oldies camp at 14
Mate my oldies camp at 14 mile every year for 2 months!! along with a shed load of other retirees....but most dont seem to get there till end of april after school hols....so you should get a beach camp instead of over the dunes if thats what you want..
South passage is pretty tame really, I was going out in my 12 foot tinny last year...but just beware if the swells up....and sometimes its actually calmer outside than in!
We camp at Sandy point, mainly cos its better for the kids, but you have to motor a couple of clicks to get out of the sanctuary
