Rumours????
Might have to check it out German, the weather could stirr up a bit of activity in close and I have yet to pop my metro YFT cherry. I think I might venture out on Saturday, looks like it will be glassy all day. Will be hard to resist the temptation to head wide on a day like that, but I have a feeling that closer in is the place to be this weekend.
What does everyone else think?
Cheers

Weekend weather
Saturday: E/NE winds 8/13 knots. Seas 1.0m. Swell to 3.5m, slowly easing.
Sunday: N/NE winds 18/23 knots, strengthening N/NW 20/30 knots in the afternoon.
Could be ok tomorrow, but a 3.5 m swell might make it pretty ugly out there. There were pictures of a 22kg yellowfin being caught a long way out from Mindarie on W.Angler last week. When we were out there on Tuesday the water temp was 22 degrees at its hottest and we saw atleast 5 pods of baitfish milling around on the way back in. Thought it must be soon that the pinkies start happening from North Mole, but maybe this storm isn't big enough to get them in properly.
I'm with Andy, I'd be hanging in close just to make sure that wind does drop out. They forecasted it to be 8/13 on tuesday with not much swell and it was pretty hairy out there with the 15-20. A 3.5m swell and if it picks up to 13/18 north easter could make it a bit dangerous to venture out further, see what its like in the morning I guess, weatherman has been a bit hot n cold lately. :)))
Hope you all have a good weekend and do manage to get a fish if your out there.

hhhmmmmm
my mate decided he would take his boat(glad we did) caught few black ass etc heading home back the way we travelled got picked up by a massive wave ended up sitting on the 3mile wave sucked all the water away got smashed into the rocks 2nd set crashed over boat motor stalled cause prop was on the reef and couldnt spin i took his controls off him because i have a lot more experince and a tl3 and we worked together to get our wet ass's off the rocks. picked up a wave and navigated through the wat was exposed reef.
very lucky boys got some really good chips on the boat he hasnt got a quote yet but id say couple of grand. tweaked the prop today and let so thats all good.
ps i forgot to mention on the way out near trig bouy we encounted a set of 4 waves easy5-7 mt in height without a fishing lie i could of gotton out and surfed the face they were that big. they were the only set like that all afternoon we saw too.
cant wait to get out again though. BUT in the savage only.

Very Lucky Boys!!!
Jeez Street, that's a hairy encounter, glad you got out of there in one piece. Did your mate go out on the leads or just visually sight a spot between the breakers? That would be one very scary experience. I did something similar heading out one day and encountered a massive wave that came out of nowhere and just stood up in front of us, luckily I was at the helm and gunned it up the face and backed off the throttle so we nudged over the back rather than launching into space. Scared the absolute crap out of me. Ever since I have taken the leads out from the marina in anything over a 1.5m swell.
Cheers

leads
it was about 500mt north of trig bouy where we entered and left i think it was mainly because really low tide. yeah there was one point as the southwind rolled i nearly got 2 feet on the gunnel walls as we crashed sideways off the reef. i usally dont go out on other ppls boats mainly because of the older gps's, give me my lowerance global map any day or nite.

Glad you are still with us
Glad you are still with us street thats not the way I would like to discover that adrenalin is brown , was it in the dark as well ???
However as they say the majority of boats will handle far worse situations than the majority of owners are interested in playing with and rightfully so of course .
Had a few hairy experiences at the Abrolhos in the past and when the big swells stand up up there they really jump.
Obviously keeping a cool head had a big influence on your successful extrication from a potential life threatening situation.
Well played to both of you.

Nasty
So I take it that the hands are fully healed now as well Street.
We encountered a couple of big waves on the way back in at Two Rocks on Tuesday, had to pull out and go back around for another run in. Could imagine that it would have been pretty hairy out there on Saturday with the swell they forecasted.
