Went out for a snapper bash
Went out for a snapper bash tonight. Left the marina at about 4 . Headed out to an area we were told thats got some snapper hanging around in the evening. Set anchor and got the burley flowing. Had the lines set by about 5 . Meanwhile we were getting into the whiting for a feed. After about an hour 1 line took off and went straight out and didnt look like stopping . Called it for a shark. Just on dusk we had 2 lines go off together this time playing dirty and going real hard . Ended with both busting off. Not fair. About 10 minuites later another line went nuts and playing real dirty going around the boat and tangled in the anchor rope and another bust off. They were all hooters and just didnt want to stop.
Ended with 4 bust offs and a feed of whiting and a few hours on the water. Will be back out again for sure.

They'll be sweet whiting
They'll be sweet whiting Russ. Grab yourself a scaling bag and it'll save you ages in filleting them next time. They work great but you may have to still finish a few up.
On that, I painstakingly filletted and removed the pinbones from the 20 big sandies I caught the other week and we took the two dozen frozen fillets we didn't cook down Mandurah for dinner on the weekend and the Mrs left the vac bag in my car overnight... she wasn't popular.

cheers, i got the scaling bag already, how long do you leave the bag in the water and how fast do you need to go to get the best results,
vac bag of fish in the car overnight , would have been tasty the next day for sure .

Just fast enough so it's
Just fast enough so it's tumbling around, 30 at a time I find is best. Just check after 3 minutes and repeat until all scales are removed, go to fast and the bag won't last...

Beautiful Russ!
I love fresh whiting. Anyone know what beach I can pick some up from next week with the kids?

Big yellowfin at Melros Beach this time of year and lots being caught on popper and vibes Peel side. If the kids are young try Karanga St but make sure the kids wear shoes if they follow you out
