WHALE CARCASS AT HILLARYS

So... my mate just called me and reckons he just heard on the radio that a whale carcass has washed up somewhere near hillarys marina and that due to the really squally winds and weather,  authorities havnt had the chance to remove it yet...

His thoughts are, "Would this berley up the water? is it worth throwing a line out?"

So I said id put it up on here too... whats the general concencus when theres a carcass in the water regarding fishing conditions?

Wed, 2007-08-01 17:17

I doubt theyll be guarding it tonight... get on it mate... ;)

Spess: cmon man, fluked, a 12kg sambo on 6pound? or 8 pound line? While walking the rock wall, just happened to be in front of the reef, casted a bomb to actually get close to the reef, atleast 120m to that reef... and to actually incite enough interest using a 20gram raider? by just letting it drop to the bottom and then after all that, NOT have the stock trebles pull out to loose the fish before you pulled it into the rock wall to bust off.... and the way they fight? lol

Not saying you arnt capable of doing it but the chance of repeating it is so slim which is the reason why.... Man it was a FLUKE!!!

Fluke maybe! 1st off ive

Wed, 2007-08-01 18:12

Fluke maybe! 1st off ive hooked 4 now on 3 different days after 3 hours of berling up the water each day, with 2 eye witnesses with me on all occations one being my wife which some members know. 2ndly the first time i wasnt expecting it but after that heavier gear ie 20lb braid 60lb leader was used. lure was a blue pilly flick bait in the 200mm range squidgy well big enough to interest a sambo. The idea of berley is to get the fish to swim to you so who said anything about a 120m cast? Sambo on 6lb? Its been done on quite a few occations on jigging expoditions and the fish has been landed! 32kg as well. Ive seen it theres pics on this site with it as well. Maybe your comments are funny maybe not, but we will wait and see if one can be landed from there and a photo taken before anything can be proven so at this stage just say im full of it.............until the pic which may never happen. It was just a heads up for any keen land based guys you would love to get into them from such a location that anyone would be proud of. Jokes aside i will get one its just a matter of time, hopefully they dont piss off with out a capture. Cheers Chris.

Went and had a look on me

Thu, 2007-08-02 06:27

Went and had a look on me way home from work last night at around 7:30pm. Couldnt see much but it looks like it has been cleanded up. Theres still a slight smell around the place so i could be wrong. I walked up to 2 guys who were having a fish right at the end of the lighthouse casting towards the floating blubber or were it was (maybe still there couldnt see enough!) one of the men started saying that they had only been there for an hour or so and had some big takes resulting in bustoffs! Might have been pulling it but after another 14hour day i wasnt prepared to shoot home and grab a rod.........maybe tonight.

PS: Rickets no dramas here mate :)

some interesting news in the

Thu, 2007-08-02 18:22

some interesting news in the Bluewater Tackle newsletter:

Quote:

Reports are in that a 15-tonne humpback whale carcass was successfully removed from Hillarys Boat Harbour today, with a team managing to lift the body intact with a crane. The whale was taken to a nearby landfill site to be buried.

The removal operation came after four days of extreme weather, and expectations the carcass could have fallen to pieces once lifted out. Herring were reportedly going berserk down there, with the amount of berley in the water.

Soon after the carcass was out of the water, observers watched a five-metre great white shark swim along the harbour wall, prompting authorities to shut down the beach and erect warning signs. Other people reported a similar size shark circling the barricaded carcass yesterday, just metres from a canoeist.

Fisheries will be monitoring the harbour for any further shark sightings.

Fri, 2007-08-03 07:08

We went dowm last night for a try and just before sundown i straightend a hook on something with the bream gear but after that until 9pm it was dead quiet! Not even a touch, which was surprising as every cast that hit the water resulted in bait schools leaping out of the water. Tryed everything but no luck. Trying again tonight.
