Bait keeper hooks, Mustad or Gamakatsu chemically sharpened if I'm doing baits like prawns. Sometimes I'll go to a gang of 3 Tarpons if I'm using a whitebait or blue sardine

two circle hook snell

Use a snell with two small mustad circles. The fish always get hooked in the corner of the jaw, better for the fish and results in less hooks cut off.

bream hooks

Tue, 2015-03-10 19:13

Tassy, size 4 is fine. (Not 4/0 they are much bigger)

Anything between size 4 and upwards to size 1.

Good to hear you caught some. River prawns from the baitshop are absolutely fine for bream, Keep the good prawns for dinner!

hehe I hate prawns mate,

Tue, 2015-03-10 19:35

hehe I hate prawns mate, these were huge king prawns for table, I had in freezer :). Too big so gonna find soem smaller ones either at fish monger or Coles...So i need size 4 baitholders ? okis cheers guys.

Yer even though they were tiny fish, it was still fun. Not to mention 10 seconds after dropping first bait in water I got a huge strike... was good.Should I bend out the barbs on the end of hook ?. much easier to get it off the fish, but Bream may pull out too... So not sure. I'd like to do as little damage to the fish as possible.

I know on long liners we used huge shark hooks, an they did untold damage to the fish...

Gamakatsu Shiner Hooks

Best Hooks for presenting a whole prawn and corner of the mouth hook ups.

River prawns from the tackle shop are fine on these.

 I use size 1 or 2 circle

Tue, 2015-03-10 22:02

I use size 1 or 2 circle hook for breaming, either leave lots of slack or let the fish run a bit on freespool then apply pressure, works 9/10 times once you get the hang of it and will hate using any other style of hooks. Just make sure the point is showing outside the bait and not obstructed

Also use the ones with the straight eye like the mustad demon circle or black magic KL circles as I find they work a lot better for corner of the mouth hookups

Lures and soft plastics work very well but you need to cover plenty of ground.

Try circles, I do heaps of bream fishing and I've caught heaps of good bream to 40 on them and never had one bend or snap.
