what to do??
Just after a few opinions...
About 18months ago brought a 17ft runabout for 10k from a local boatyard!!! Only to hav the hull shit its self on the 6th trip out...!!!! So I have saved up and brought myself another 2nd hand hull(douglas craft 5.3 nothing pretty but solid) and put it on my original trailer with the idea of transfering my motor over, only to find out off the boat yard today that i need a 25" leg and my 75hp is only 20". It was suppose to be a cheap way out to get on the water but has back fired, so i can either cut dwn the trandom to get this motor on or spend the time and make it look pretty whilst i save for a motor that fits and power the boat to full capability with a 90hp...its going to cost me about 3500 to have all the work done to get on the water in a couple of weeks or do i spend the time and money?????
any feed back would be great in regard to project etc

Personally I'd spend the time and money, flog off the 75. Then at least you will have exactly what you want without any regrets, and you'll have piece of mind motor wise.

Not a good situation to be
Not a good situation to be in. been in similar situation ourself but it was the motor that kicked the bucket. my suggestion would be to look around for a 2nd hand motor that you can use the other one as a trade in. lots of people upgrade their motor so there has to be some good ones hanging around in yards. good luck with whatever way you go

you could make up a pod and
you could make up a pod and lower the motor with it, as long as it's free of the water and does not risk being swamped
Being a 75hp, it could be done with a simple allie bracket and a few struts to a base plate you can bolt and brace onto the back. Seen many a job done like that in places where motors are dificult to come by ... ( Africa / Asaia / South America...etc)
Think it through, cause if's a good motor, it may be worth doing.
Also look around some boat salvage yards for an old pod you could modify to fit,
cheers

Buggered
I think I would be waiting a few more weeks and getting another motor.
I dont like the idea of weakening the transom by cutting it down .
The cost of a pod would probably be too expensive and you wouldn't get your money back when you sell it.
If your 75 is in good condition and a late'ish model you will get good money on it as they are hard to fine second hand.
Also that boat with a 75 is going to be underpowered ........and you will want to repower it anyway in 6 months.
Good Luck !

exchange legs
Don't know if you can buy just the leg from an outboard wrecker,or exchange it even. I thought you could put another leg on without too much problem..
Or look for a motor thats cactus and swap legs.

i know it doesnt help but
i know it doesnt help but this is an example of why you spend time understanding exactly what it is you need in the first instance, a valuable lesson learnt i am sure.
if it were me
i would
bite the bullet mate. Cut my losses and start over. Sell the lot rather than modifying, that is just more money.

Change the motor over
I would sell the 75 and look for the right motor it shouldnt be much of a change figure if you are patient. What was wrong with the other hull was it really unrepairable. Would you like to sell it, if so what brand/model is it?

could the hull be converted
could the hull be converted to twin motors? As most twin set ups are 20inch legs.
hell with twin 75 on it, it would be a flyer!...
otherwise post up on the boating sales forums, to swop it for a long leg set up

Old hull
I know its too late but happened to the old hull, how did it go cactus? would it've been cheaper to fix the hull? Interested as I own a regent princess(half cab model of the prince) have had a few issue's with the hull but nothin i couldn't fix with some glass. And i'm currently lookin to get the floor redone. Great solid boats that ride awesome for their size but they are gettin a bit old and tired now

regent
the hull had a crack dwn the keal and movement in the floor yes could of spent the time fixing it up but it didnt really suit my needs as the new hull i picked up should give me abit more option on getting out that bit futher well that was the plan before this drama.
Im having a hunt around for another motor just might take abit longer than i expected but least i will have the power if i can pick up a 90hp
