What glue?

I'm redoing the dinghy carpet as the old stuff is perishing.

What adhesive would you recommend to stick marine carpet, to marine ply, and where can you get it?

Cheers
Scotto

Plain contact cement from bunnings worked a treat on mine.

Trick is to apply it to both surfaces, let it get tack dry and then press firmly together.

Seal the ply with clear estapol first.

Scotto, Contact is fine and as big john says make sure you put it on both surfaces, but rather than sealing the ply first, just put a layer of contact on the ply(buy fast grip from bunnings as its cheaper and just as good... Im a carpet layer and its what I use!!) then when that dries(a few minutes) put another layer onto the ply and then onto the backing of the carpet.... by the time you get the carpet covered itll be pretty much ready to stick together.

Marine carpet is an absolute bitch to lay normally as the correct adhesive doesnt even like to hold it.... aaagh we had a whole classroom of the crap the other day and it sucked balls... wasnt even enough left over for me to do a mates boat( which I was planning on doing)

Troy

PS watch the fumes on that stuff.. and dont smoke around the open tin... its one of the most flammable substances around(I learnt that the hard way)

sikaflex is a bit more expensive than contact though, and you need to make sure you get the right one for the job.
