What Lurks Beneath Fremantle Wharf Part 2 (added extention bait arm)
Submitted by tailor marc on Wed, 2012-04-18 07:05
The time had come where we needed to attract the fish. This is just a trial idea and i have already learnt alot just from the 2 days of filming this video. I need to place a bracket on the extension and fix it into a secure position. I will also try different bait , oiler bait and more mushy bait will do the job. Slowly but surley i will get there. Happy as with the results so far. Stay tuned for more vids to come. Open to suggestions for me to try this set up...

Occy
Very cool - love the octopus and the cormorant scattering the trumpeter
Couple of things I would suggest:
1. a heavier and wider base would make it sit with more stability (a plate with dive weight bolted to it might do the trick. Might stop the occy flipping it around too.
2. drop the bait arm down so it is just at the bottom of the view rather than right in the middle.
google BRUVS to see how the pro ones are set up - bigger scale, but you'll get some ideas. (BRUVS = baited remote underwater video system)

you could have an arm out
you could have an arm out from above the camera with heavy line dangling down with a large chunk of bait hanging off it. the basket might be a bit off putting for the fish. them trumpies were going nuts over it tho.

Nice one Mark, looks like an occy pot dropped down there might get a new resident in no time.

Ghost cotton
Try that rather than the big red basket. Simply tie the bait straight onto the arm with the bait cotton. It might give the fish more of an incentive to check it out.
When Ewan and I did some drop cam footage we used an arm above the camera with a wiggling worm like lure dangling off it. The action of the wiggling worm attracted a lot of interest. You could try something like that?
Awesome vid by the way. Loved the occy, shame he liked the camera more than the bait otherwise we would have gotten a better look at him.
Cheers
