What rod/reel to buy

Going to buy a new set up....

I'll spend around the $700 mark,  prefer over head was thinking the Talica 8 or 10...

Will be jigging metals and placs,  bottom bouncing and a bit of northern trolling....

I don't need/want a "pure new school" jig rod as I probably don't fit that mould the way I fish.

Ideas anyone?

To add to that, I prefer to fish lighter/smaller style gear as I've never been properly dusted with the fish I've caught and what I currently use.

I've got a talica 8 that I've been using (you can buy it if you want :)

I've just swapped over to a smaller over head as the talica was a bit big for what I'm doing and I don't troll so didn't need the line capacity

 Little talica on a demon

Little talica on a demon blood is a nice combo. I think mine is the 64cj. Nice and light but plenty of balls when you load it up.

I was in the same position a while ago. It was a talica or daiwa saltist LD40H. I ended up with the saltist because I got it slightly used for a steal. It has a nice drag & is quite small but has good line capacity. Matched to a Jigstar rod. Happy so far but haven't really given it a good test yet..

I've been thinking along the same lines Timboon and was looking at a Tekota 500 (only a 4.2 ratio) matched to a 7ft Terez for around $500. Bloody light combo. My mate bought a Saltist rod and reel from Oceanside in the summer and that goes alright, 10kg duey from 4m and a 18kg from the 50's and he rates it as a good, light combination.

Talica 12 2 speed on a Demon Blood  keeps me happy . Downside is I’m fishing in water no deeper than 15 metres up here these days , kind of over gunned me thinks .
