Nice work mate, andas the others have said its a tiger.

They are good eating around that size, but you and your mates should cut its fins off as soon as you know you're gonna keep it

We were in a hurry for my mate was late for dinner with his girl. My car boot is a mess though now. Had to bend the fish in to two, head when in the pail and tail when in to bucket, but it managed to jump out and bloodied my entire boot while I was driving.

PS thanks for the tip. Our first shark actually, we haven't been lucky, for each time we go we get bite offs on 150lb and 200lb wire.

Was there ballooning with a mate, and met this English gentlemen there with his 14ft overhead reel + rod.

While me an my mate were getting pissed off with jet skiers and boats going over our lines, we finally gave in when my line was severed by a ignorant dick on his boat.

Anyways, he was here on a 3 week holiday visiting his daughter, he has been fishing up and down the metro coast. After 2 or so hours his reel took off. We all said sting ray at first for it was not fighting that much. When it was about 20m out there were a few headshakes, so I said shark! And true enough it was a shark. Managed to get the shark close to the rocks and I gaff'd <- ? it.

He wanted pictures and me and my mate wanted fish and chips so we brought it up on the rocks. So after high fives here and there we parted our ways. Good bloke!

He was damn lucky though that he managed to land it! He was using 30lb braid with only 12 inchess of 40lb wire which had two 3/0 hooks on it.

It was approximately 25kgs and about four and a half feet.

Looks more like a NW blowie to me. The profile of the head gives it away imo.

Fri, 2012-01-13 21:38

you cut them out of the head, first step. There are a few ways to get rid if the meat. One way is to boil the jaws, then rip the meat off, If you have a compost heap, that works, or even keaving it for the ants to deal with. then you clean em, you can enamel them if you so desire, or coat them.

Sat, 2012-01-14 07:59

We had a 3m Tiger playing around the boat last week, only 2km from Scarbourgh Beach,

Funny thing was we had all been contemplating going for a quick dip 5 mins before, soon changed our mind!!!

Tigers good eating??? lmao!!

Sun, 2012-01-15 09:03

Now i know i dont know the whole story but i am gonna have my say....... Again with people catching stuff they dont know wot it is and keeping it seems to be going on alot recently. I mean if u dont know wot a tiger shark is, wot do you know?? Now i've never eaten a tiger before but have been told they are absolutly rubbish even by the aboriginals. Leemo have u ever eaten a tiger shark? i doubt it! so y say they are good eating???? Like i said if the natives try and stay away from them i'm sure everyone else will too. Even the small ones are jammed packed with mercury!!! But hey, word of mouth and i've never eaten a tiger and never will.

I actually caught one about a year ago and we ate it. Wasn't the best shark we've had but was ok. The best so far would have to be Hammerhead followed by Bronzie. As Carnarvonite said you need to clean out the bloodline in it's guts to get rid of the amonia taste. We will give it a club over the side and then cut off the tail where they bleed out beautifully. Always process them at sea as they have a huge amount of guts etc.
