What tackle bags for jigs and trolling lures?

In the process of replacing my el cheapo tackle bags.  Forgot to rinse them after last trip away and all the zips on two seized up.  The only only that survived and has now been cleaned is my asari zip up bag that opens up with h/d plastic zip lock sleeves inside.

That asari bag has my bait rigs in it, for bait fish, herring, whiting, fresh and live bait as well.

I have bought another asari bag that now has my soft plastics and i have a special squid jig container on the way.

What i am chasing is storage solutions for metal jigs, and trolling lures (hard bodied and skirts).

Ideas, suggestions?

For metal jigs, a quality jig bag will cover that and if you want a storage container for both HB & Skirted lures the Plano Hydro-flo stowaway is what we reccomend.

Its deep and has holes in it for wash out and drainage.

for trolling lures I prefer lure rolls.  As you will probably keep the skirts rigged with leaders etc.  Also much easier if they are Velcro sealed with a mesh back for easy washing.

Hard bodied lures rarely fit those stowaway boxes but can be thrown in the bottom pouch of a lure roll

HPA BAGS mate are the best have owned alot of stuff from hpa jig wallets tackle bags duffle bags carry bags been attacked by salt water everytime o go fishing had them for around 3 years and everything still feels brand new

Also another good one is a temple reef lure mesh bag u can wash the whole thing and all ur lures at once makes life easy

Go with a soft bag rather then hard ad i have had way to.many hard case crack and break over the years

Fit no worries!

Randal mention trolling lures (hard bodied and skirts) so if he is chasing a hybrid the Plano Hydro-flo stowaway as mentioned are perfect and we've sold plenty of these for such.

If its just skirted lures only then Richter roll wraps for sure.

Ps with Abrolhos Tormentor/Rapala X-Wrap Mag 30 this box will hold approx 16 deep diving minnow or 8 x 10" skirts with leader plus 8 x deep divers.

Is that sold as part of a bag, or is it a container sold seperately?  Which size is that one in the photo? (LxWxD)

When changing out your jigs, do you guys just change over the jig and the assist hooks, or just the jig and leave the assist hooks on the line?  Ie do you store you jigs as just the lure, or fully rigged with assist hooks?

 I have just now finished

Wed, 2018-01-31 09:53

I have just now finished re-organising my shed as a commercial sewing shop and currently have 5 commercial sewing machines. My main field of expertise is parachute rigging but I'm looking to increase my work load. I also have significant experience inivating and manufacturing outdoor equipment and enjoy this work.

I'm interested to attempt to make some jig bags up mainly for my own use but with potential to supply others locally. I only ever bother making items that are extremely high quality, fit for purpose and long lasting. I will use a mesh type fabric that water can pass though that will dry quickly. It will close with velcro so that there are no zippers to fail. Or velcro will be tape/webbing backed to last.

Design critiria I can think of follows:

  • Lures are protected from scratching from eachother and everything else
  • Can see the lures in it without removal
  • Gigs are quick & easy to stow and retreave while fishing
  • Can be washed by emersion in water or hosing with lures inside
  • Quick dry
  • If left unwashed the bag won't fail but the lures might
  • Stores in a compact manor, possibly rolles up or flat
  • Stores more than one size jig

I'm not too sure about storage with assist hooks or not but could have a pouch to store these too and not sure about sizes because it might be better to have a couple of sizes say up to 100gm and over 100gm.

I'm interested to hear others thoughts on this before I make the first one. I have some excellent fabric here that I used to make a dive bage for crays and a insect and grass seed cover for the bull bar of my Hilux but I don't have much left so I will need to find more... In the mean time I see what else you guys come up with for design criteria.
