not sure if this has been done before, but here goes.
what is the wierdest fish you have ever caught weather it be species or a deformity. our wierdest catch out on our boat was a species that i didnt even know existed until we looked it up in a book "FROGFISH" it was so ugly but yet totally different to anything i have ever seen before

don't know if this counts,
don't know if this counts, bc the fish isn't weird, just the methods.
I've been noodling for catfish, and bowfishing for gar....which are both awesome!

not a weird fish but
not a weird fish but unexpected.
Caught a 25cm goatfish was gonna let it go but changed my mind and put it on my ray fishing outfit live hooked with 3x snelled gamagastu occies. Chucked it out and as soon as it hit the water we all watched my drag go off, we were thinkin that the goat was stronger then it looks. Then i foooled round with the drag thinkin there was something wrong with it. I took the rod out of the holder then i felt the weight and saw something thrashing the surface.
By the end of it, landed my first salmon. 77cm @ 4.6kg on a goatfish. Was this year.

Silver spotted parrot fish
When I was 10 we were fishing the SA championships I caught a heap of rock fish and this was one of them when it was weighed and identified I found out it was an Aust record, in the same bag was the state record brown spotted parrot fish too.

Yep
Got the certificates here somewhere ??
They both got sent to the museum in SA for identification , thats when it came out I had caught a rare specie and was the record, the silver spot was preserved and put in the museum on show for a while, don't know what has happened to it now ??
That was the thing back then in comps it was gear in the water and catch whatever you could, I competed in club comps, state comps and even in National comps, when I first came to WA they were holding the national champs down Mandurah way from my poor memory I think we entered it but I can't be sure.
It was over 35 years ago ( i'm 46 now and started fishing at age 4 and in comps from age 8).
I couldn't even remember all the weird crap I have caught over the years, I once caught a diver off the port Giles jetty in SA , hooked his mask right off him and wound it up,............. seconds later a very irate diver surfaced and asked for it back.

Bonefish while bottom bouncing
I was fishing the shallow reefs at the eastern end of Turtle Bay (Dirk Hartog Island) from a friends charter boat when I hooked something on a bottom bouncing rig (10kg short stroker and TLD 25 with braid) that nearly pulled me overboard. It pulled like a big sambo and took me about 10 mins to get it boatside. Before I even realised what I had caught, the deckie gaffed it, unhooked it and just as I realised it was a bonefish but before I could even open my mouth, threw it back because he had no idea what it was. (I usually don't let deckies deal with my fish when out on a charter boat, preferring to do my own unhooking, but this guy muscled in with the gaff toptally unecessarily. I don't see much point in gaffing a fish that is going to be released, or in this case, just chucked back to die!) It was about 75cm long (estimate only, it wasn't onboard long) and my guess is it weighed about 5kg. I wish now that I had been able to get a photo. I have caught a couple of smaller ones (1-2kg) at Muads Landing before, but never one this big.
Otherwise, my wierder catches are probably eels and ribbonfish up north.

Outboard motor
Pulled up a 7.5hp Johnson outboard in the shark net north of Quindalup in 2002,had been in the water for a long time by the look of it.Got a phone call from a mate sharkfishing from Two Rocks about 2 weeks later telling me that he had pulled a 5hp one up that morning.
Seems as though people were not bolting them on to the outboard brackets only relying on the toggle screws.Used to be common practice before marine radios came in to carry a spare outboard in case of breakdown, though have seen some that still do.

Caught a brand new rod and reel / snapper double header
Out at the Abrolhos last year.
The owner thanked me as he hand lined it up after I had trained the snapper on the end of my line to circle across where his rod had gone overboard as it was plummeting to the depths maybe 30m down. Talk about skillful (hehehe) nah... just plain lucky I guess.
Cheers

Not a fish
but my mate and I caught a river rat (about 20cm long body) in a yabbie pot down south. Went in to get the bait, and like the yabbies couldn't find his way out. Unlike yabbies, the rat couldn't breathe underwater.....
