Some of my favourites were not actually personal bests. Depends on a few things.

My first Mulloway when I was 17 was a highlight. Only around 14kg or so but it was the first fish that I really put a game plan down and stuck with it till I had it figured out.

Got a 40kg Black Marlin on 6kg a couple of weeks ago that rates as my favourite for the moment.

my all-time pb

Thu, 2010-10-07 07:47

it was a few years ago when i was about 21 - 22, me and the boys were out in subi on a friday night of the australia day long weekend, and i picked up 2 chicks, one of which was a supr'e model, the other was just as fit. both were a size 6, aged 22 and 23, and about 50kg each.

i wont go into every detail, but none of us left the house until they went home early monday morning. BOOM.

I've caught bigger dhuies...

Thu, 2010-10-07 08:18

....then the 14kg I one jigged up the other day, but they were on bait so not quite the same...

7 year old's 4.5kg snapper and 11 year old's 16.5kg dhufish.

First dolphinfish at the Rotto fads...probably not even 3kg but took a popper...followed by 4kg one on a soft plastic.

8kg mulloway on a metal spoon near my house in Singleton.

20kg yellowfin tuna...first time I ever attempted to troll a bibbed minnow along the back of a reef, 15 years ago. Needless to say, I've never even come close to matching that effort sinceCry

Charter boat out of San Diego...caught 7 albacore to 30 pounds on jig, while everyone else on board managed 1-3 using live bait.

Most Memorable

Thu, 2010-10-07 08:36

My most memorable captures have been with the fly rod.

Bream - 43cm caught at The Sticks a few years back now on the 6 weight

Mulloway - est at 16-18kg taken on an 8 weight.

Giant Herring - caught two in the Swan on the 6 weight one morning while fishing for bream.  One approx 70cm the other approx 55cm.  Surprisingly the smaller fish put up the better fight.

Years

Thu, 2010-10-07 09:29

Over the years like Russ [Faulkner Family] and son, Jeff [Deepwater] I have worked as a pro fisherman, but the ones mentioned were caught as an amatuer.

Most memorable---a double header of 40lb+ dhueys of Cape Naturaliste on 300lb handline [normal thing those days.

62lb clean mulloway around from Parry's inlet  @ 10 in the morning on 15lb

68lb spaniard off Whistling rock Quobba.

15LB Tailor at South Conto

33lb sambo land based at Old Cut Bunbury, 28kg sambo off Two Rocks on 300lb handline

7 foot wobbie free swimming with a gaff in 3 feet of water Hungry Hollow Bunbury and 10 footer on 30lb land bases at Belvedre Bunbury.

Double header of 6kg salmon on 20lb at north side of Old Cut, Bunbury , cut second trace and hooks off straight after because it was hard work.

Son, Jeff and I caught our bag limit of pinkies [was 10 each then] in 11 minutes in 200 foot of water off Gnaraloo in late eighties.

There was a possible record smasher for Stormy perch [sea trumpeter], first one was about 50% heavier than the then record and next cast got one that was double the weight of the previous one. Chucked both of them back because I didn't want my name up for a record for a shit fish that are really crap eating, both were caught at South Conto.

Pro

Thu, 2010-10-07 14:05

Working as a pro, put down a drop line with twelve hooks on to a lump off Preston beach, did a quick turn around with the boat and picked it up after not more that 3 minutes in the water and caught 11 size dhueys. Catching snapper as a pro using snapper winches we used to average better than 4 fish each drop using 5 hooks off Koks island in the seventies.

Carnarvonite and Scotto are

Thu, 2010-10-07 17:21

Carnarvonite and Scotto are a close run thing here for the winner. Mind you that 103 cm trout Pilbara Brad got puts him into contention.

Mine isn't so impressive but not too bad, I'll just name a few of the major fish we get up in my neck of the woods.

Coral Trout approx 90 cm

Fingermark 87 cm

GT 40 kg

Spaniard 26 kg

Mangrove jack 6 kg

Red Emperor 10.5 kg

Large mouth nannygai 8 kg

Queenfish 12 kg

Best but not biggest Barra was a 105 wild caught fish that blew a bearing on the reel on the strike while trolling. I had 2 metres of line to play with due to the resulting backlash and had to handline the big girl in on 15 lb mono. I have no clue how she didn't snap me on the first run or some of the subsequent ones or snag me for that matter. It's catches like this that are hard to beat.

That buff is much smaller than one I caught of the southern ocean side jetty of the cut. And bloody hell are they a serious angry fighting fish. I once posted a thread about the best fighter pound for pound and rated Chinas as the best. I think I forgot BBream.

Great pics BTW.

Not mentioning any others

Tue, 2010-10-12 14:18

Because simply they dont match to many of the great captures above.

However 11kg Tailor Blue hole kalbarri. Old local "farts" chased me off Wittacara Creek because they parked their 4x4s on the beach. About 30 off them and me as a 18yo youngster. Simply pussed me aside everytime I rebaited until I was out of the gutter I chose. Moved to Blue Hole and caught the greenback on a floating Mulie just pissed off at the farts. Didnt like Tailor to eat and nowadays it would certainly have fought another day. Drove back to Witta and walked passed the farts holding this massive fish.

One of them was nice enough to weigh it for me, and for a while there was a photo in the tackle store.

Dont think I will beat that ever.

...not the biggest but most memorable. After losing all bait ( and some tackle ) on Frustraton reef...i cast out the last mulie and watched as it was smashed by large green back....after a few tail walks it was landed...just under 70cm

also....watching my 5 year old daughter pull in a double header of 30cm yellow fin whilting up in Shark Bay on the lightest rod and reel made...!!!
