Where to go???
Submitted by maccie on Mon, 2012-08-06 06:33
Hey guys. I know this question has been asked a thousand times but one more cant hurt. Im from the east so dont know the north west coast very well. A few mates and I are heading up north for a week. Been to warrowa last year and am thinking of somewhere different this time. Will be mostly fishing with some diving and spearing. Have a tinny so need somewhere we can launch(beach or ramp). Got plenty of gear. Any suggestions???.

Yeah exmouth mate 3 really good boat ramps, marina, tantabiddi or bundegi. Lots of good landbased fishing as well. Not a diver but all the reports i hear are great just watch out for noahs

Are there any decent spots
Are there any decent spots more south. The driver is will need some convincing to go that far. He'll just have to cop it.

Plenty of noahs but no problem diving
Seen hundreds, more worried about huge cod getting territorial, saw one the size of a flaming VW - they eyes were sash width apart - humungous

Gnarloo
Or Quobba- depends really! tinny and beach launching would suit Gnarloo better, quobba you have loads of land base options if the swell isnt a problem for both. Had a couple of mates do some diving off Garths a few years back not my cup of tea though i would shit my pants...

Try Kalbarri. Diving is
Try Kalbarri. Diving is awesome in the bays south of town. Fishing aint bad either although getting out is a bit tricky from what I've heard. My boat was almost sunk there by it's previous owner, hence the reason for selling.
Love the West!

Shark bay
Head in towards Steep point but stop off in some of the bays on the way in. This time of the year the wind is mostly offshore or you don't have far to travel to find where it is. The water is chrystal clear and there plenty of fish to spear or line catch.
Pink snapper, spanglies, baldies, tailor you name it and all in less than 20 feet of water

My favourites for a boys trip
My favourites for a boys trip would be
Number 1 with a small tinny - South Lefroy Bay at Ningaloo - plenty of options inside the reef and outside (on a good day) for both spearing and fishing
Number 2 - Tamala or Carrarang station
Number 3 - but a lot closer - Lucky Bay - very weather dependent but the possibility of a decent Mackeral
Its prob too far for you, but the absolute best of the lot is Collier Rocks up the top of Flying Foam Passage out from Dampier - camp on one of the small islands and catch or spear everyting from Mangrove Jacks and Trout to Mackeral and Chinaman fish..... Doesnt matter what the weather is - there is always somewhere to get a decent fish (I should post a few pics of my last boys trip there - you will definately drive the extra distance for it!!)

thanks guys. looks like
thanks guys. looks like gnaraloo is where we're going. Is it easy to find a good place to set up camp. Also a good place to launch the boat.(leaving the tinny at home and hiring a 6.5m shit yeah). Never been to gnaraloo so any info will help or some rough directions. cheers
