Which Coastal Boat Ramp in Perth Region?

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/imarine/19106.asp

This link shows all of the coastal boat ramps NOR and SOR in Perth.

Those of you who frequent the Perth coastal boat ramp scene, which ramp offers the best access to the better fishing grounds for blue water fishing?

Also, which of these ramps are the best organised with least bottlenecks at busy times.

I am relocating to Perth and I need to decide where I want to store the boat and possibly reside in the Perth region.

Mon, 2010-08-02 21:18

yeah till , when they finally get around to moving some earth.

in short fortis , i use hillarys , ocean reef and mindarie ramps, mindarie most often.

surprisingly if you were heading to rotto trench , its practically the same distance from all three. (around 50 k's)

o/r has 8 ramps

hillarys has 6

mindarie has 4

i live near ocean reef which puts me in the middle of the three which is quite handy.

even with long queue's , if everyone is on their game , you can be on the water surprisingly fast , though it's always better if you're the early bird.

Thanks Guys.

Indiana - I will be working in CBD.

Woodmans Point or Peron Point - Which of these access points / boat ramps provide the best access to the best fishing for snapper, kingfish, salmon, sambos and tuna?

I guess I am referring to regions of Rotto, Cockburn Sound, 5 Fathom Reef, etc...

I am considering using the internal storage facility at Woodmans Point for storage of boat..

How big is the boat? Is it

Tue, 2010-08-03 09:00

How big is the boat? Is it the 5.4m as in your signature?

Don't know if you are renting or buying.  But if renting, consider adding the storage fees to the rent and getting a house where you can store the boat. 5.4m is very manageable at home.

Locations

Any of the Metropolitan ramps will give you the target fish you have mentioned.

Point Peron has the fastest access to the 5 fathom bank and cockburn sound (south).

The ramp in cockburn sound at the powerboat association has fast access to the the sound (north) and further a field Rottnest ,5 fathom .+ boat storage .

A ramp in the harbour has the fastest access to Rottnest and beyond .

Hillarys Boat harbour has second fastest access to Rottnest and areas north .

+ boat storage in the lifting yard (new stack/racking under constuction)

Mindarie has access to areas north

Two rocks  access to  the area further north again.

If your working in the city ....guess it depends where you choose to live north of the river or south ?

Thanks for follow up

Tue, 2010-08-03 18:53

Thanks for follow up people..

Yes, the 5.45m boat in my sig. is my boat.

I will be renting and yeah - I have to pay more if I want to store it at CPBS as I do not think I can get any sufficient storage at residence where I want to live (Shenton Park or Borongoon).  But, this is the price I am willing to pay for convenience.

And, I am not willing to live in an area where I have to spend more than 20mins commuting to/from work - just me and my family expectations I guess..

BTW, How safe is leaving this boat locked in a front yard (brother's home) in Spearwood?

I am looking forward to fishing here Cool,

Fortis

Hi Fortis

Sun, 2010-08-08 08:34

Old far and me live in Spearwood and I can tell you the crime rate (break ins etc) very low (as far as insurance for house/contents) as the suburb is mainly European,( Italians, Yugoslavs, Portuguese's etc)  our boat sits in the car port, with all gear on for the last 22yrs and nothing has ever been stolen, plus this area has heaps of dogs in the back yard

If you are residing in the areas you have decided, join the Cockburn Power boats Club, excellent ramps for launch/retrieve, excellent launching for the areas you have stated in,  full facilities in the club house to hire for parties/ or a drink on the week end after fishing, BBQ facilities etc, sleep over in caravan/boat, there is a waiting list (not many) but the future plans (plans have been given the go ahead fencing etc) are for some hard stand areas within the club grounds, fees not sure on but give the club manager Hazel a ring, security is good when you go fishing as all cars/trailers within a secure fence and a Boson is employed 24/7.. web site is cockburnpowerboats.com.au

Also have the Cockburn Sea Rescue within club grounds

Good luck

Locked in front yard

Wed, 2010-08-04 09:15

not sure about Spearwood but make sure you take all your gear out including safety gear as we have a lot of problems with flares and EPIRBs being stolen and let off requiring volunteer rescue groups to go out and investigate.

Also good idea to register with the local volunteer sea rescue group. For a small cost they will keep all your details on computer incase you get in trouble and need assistance. Below is the link for Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue which I am a member of. Has plenty of information including all the Sea rescue groups in WA and their call signs. Also we run safety convoys from Cockburn, Fremantle, Hillarys and Ocean Reef to Rottnest so you can learn how to get into the various bay. Next one is in October (details on website).

Remember to always log on with the local group and give return time. If you get into trouble and cannot contact for assistance we will send vessels out to look for you provided we know where you are.

Me again

Sun, 2010-08-08 08:37

think you'd be better SOR as all public ramps do have problems with cars getting wheels taken off, wheels off boat trailers, the Cockburn Power Boat Club (SOR) is the only club from memory that is south of the river that has parking within club grounds, don't have to pay for everytime you launch, and a area for hard stand, which is just starting to be built know (fencing) but as I said before good luck.

Hello again and thank you

Fri, 2010-09-03 18:37

Hello again and thank you very much for your replies everyone.

I have finally arrived in Perth yesterday with boat soon to arrive in around 2 weeks time.

We went for a drive today both NOR and SOR and we love Sorrento.

So, it seems I will be using Hillary's boat ramp/marina for my boating.

And, I would like to store the boat at Hillary's or anywhere else within 5-10km of Hillary's.  I shall call Hillary's tomorrow if this is possible.
