Any prop experts out there?

Have been offered a cheap spare prop to fit my 2004 Mercury 150 V6 EFI 2 stroke. Have been trying to find info on net but though would post up here. Prop is marked 48 78122 21P.
Any idea will this fit. Currently running a stainless steel vengence prop 48 16314 17P.

I doubt it as the one you are running is a 17 pitch and the one you've been offered is a 21 pitch. Unless you really want to overload your outboard.

HEY Rod,would that 21 inch
HEY Rod,
would that 21 inch fit my mercurier?
I have worked out a 21 or 19 inch pitch would be the best for me running the revs I do.
recommended prop for me is a 19 inch 3 blade 48-12700A46 Mirage plus.

the number then p, ie 17P is
the number then p, ie 17P is 17 degres of pitch. Put simply the greater the angle of rake the greater the load and more torque required to drive.
more pitch = more load, much like a smaller chain ring on a push bike

Sure its 17 degrees Brad? My understanding was a 17p prop would push the boat forward 17in for each rotation. (not counting slip in any way)

Well that is interesting. I always thought the idea of measuring that way a bit vague.

I am only going on my navy
I am only going on my navy engineering days for my knowledge. Our ships props were variable pitch, ie. controllable. At 0 pitch we had 0 degres angle of rake on the screws which meant zero propulsion. As we put pitch on the props (increased the angle of rake) it put load on the shafts. hence my statement before, the more pitch you put on the more load. 23degres was our maximum setting from memory that was also the pitch required to reach our top speed and also put maximum load on the drives.
