Which one to buy?

Hallo Everyone

I have been in the market for buying a JSki to go fishin like everyone else its a big activity over in Qld, NSW then theirs NZ also. I'm currently looking at Seadoo RXTX and Yamaha FXHO what is the better one of the 2 in terms of overall performance and fuel economy. I'm not bothered about wave jumping or anything like that. Your thoughts?

Has anyone attempted to go sambo jigging or bottom bouncing and then if u know of or what u think of trolling for Salmon down Albany's way in winter time targeting the schools behind the surf. If thats not out of bounds I'm still reading up about the rules.

Pls forgive me I'm about day's away of buying my 1st ski and taking it through it's paces before attempting to do some fishing around my parts in Mandurah dont even know if theirs others around here fishing off them.

I cant wait to do trips up north to for lots of fun. Any Ideas and pointers pls will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Me and fellow fishwrecked

Sat, 2013-01-05 08:40

Me and fellow fishwrecked member Moking have fxho's, I've been fishing, skiing, wave jumping, tow surfing, cruising on mine for over 4 years now, only ever had one problem and that was a split o ring that caused an oil leak.
Theres a reason why the majority of skis used in tow surfing, life saving, sea rescue are yamahas, reliability and stability.
Is the seadoo the red and black 260hp one? My best mate has that one, very nice ski, stable, dry ride, but it uses a shit load more fuel than mine being supercharged, and a hell of a lot louder. Thats my mates ski anyway which I think is the same you asked about.

Txs

Mon, 2013-01-07 03:22

Txs for the info will use this week to get good deal somewhere

I was in Dawesville on Sat and saw a Yamaha behing pulled in by a boaty and thought to go offer my help the fella had the whole impeller filled with seaweed and was unable to start the motor. After giving him a hand to load the jetski on he's trailer another boat pulled in a seadoo and yamaha. First the yamaha got filled with water so much that the bilge pump could not keep up and ended up taking on water before a gentlemen with a seadoo 255 offered to pull him in. Not far away the seadoo overheated and their they were both stuck, good for them a boaty was happy to help and pulled them in. Sounds like seaweed is a big problem around on the water. Was actually a nice day and good to have a chat to everyone with jetski's whether fishing or playing.

Txs once again.

I've had to jump in a couple

Mon, 2013-01-07 13:56

I've had to jump in a couple times to get the seaweed out of the intake, not a big deal I can't see why you'd have to be towed in??

We went wakeboarding yesterday with the seadoo I mentioned above and there was some serious vibration problems. Had a quick look over couldn't find anything loose, took it for test ride did the same thing and then started to stall at 65kmph. By the time we got back to shore it was back to normal. Very strange and concerning considering it has only done 30hrs.

You got a tough choice to make thats for sure

 Just had the 100hour service

Mon, 2013-01-07 21:50

Just had the 100hour service done today on the Yamaha FXHO- I couldn't be happier with the Yamaha.

It's reliable-good on fuel(has 70litre tank)- comfortable to ride and I usually fish off the Ski for several hours, when I go out.

I'm looking forward to many more fishing years on the Yamaha.

(Hey Beau...did you manage to get all the squid ink off your Ski? hahaha-)

Hi

Tue, 2013-01-08 23:02

Hi all txs for all the help on making my choice.

What I can say is the past 2 day's has been not what I expected at all not at all.

I walked into 4 jetski dealers 2 yamaha and 2 sea doo dealers on Monday with 20k cash to buy one. My 1 st choice was FX HO and 2nd was the GTI SE 155 however their was only one dealer able to give me so many extras like 1st free service, jackets, mags on the trailer all for 16500 and it was not a Yamaha. Did not take it as yet still sleeping on it.

Very dissapointed at Yamaha dealers service and even after offering to put down coin for one that comes next month or month after still got a no intrested sales men maybe being at work on a Monday suck who knows. Now I'm contimplating going east to go see if I can get one. Patients my wife tells me.

PS: Do any of u have problems with the yamaha using the salt water for cooling is it good/bad? I might buy 2nd hand one

 Hmm-That's not good

Hmm-That's not good regarding the customer service you have recieved so far.

There's another bloke on here who recently purchased a new Yamaha FXHO from the dealer in Wangara,he has told me he was very happy with the service that he got.

I brought my Yamaha second hand,it had low hours on it,and was used by a 63 year old for fishing as well.I looked at some very average condition Ski's before I brought this one.

Have a look on Gumtree for Jetski's that are for sale, that will give you an idea of prices and how many hours the Ski's have done.

The late Model Yamaha's are now all four stroke, fuel injected and very reliable. As long as a Flushing Kit is fitted to the Yamaha, and you use it,you won't have any problems for years with salt in the engine.

Hi mate

Iv recently set oup a seadoo ski for fishing. (I live in mandurah also) Check out my thread in this jetski section

Iv got an RXP-X 260 y(2011 model) Its stable and easy to fish off. Iv set it up with a lowrance elite gps/fish finder, works a treat. Only fished on it twice so far but have enjoyed it both times. The seadoos are a little thirsty, but only if you drive them hard, they have a touring and a sport mode. Touring mode (general use) is perfect for fishing/trolling and are pretty good on fuel at low revs. With a 70litre tank, you can fish all day with plenty of fuel remaining. Things i like about the seadoo rxpx model - fully adjustable steering. Height, width etc, you can set it up so that your totally comfortable whether stand up riding or sit down. The 'intelligent brake and reverse' is excellent for pulling up the ski in a hurry and getting it moving straight into reverse. The rxpx also has a very informative digital dash, with fuel to empty in litres, estimated time and km's till empty also, and i also find the adjustable trim is handy when trolling to get the nose of the ski sitting where you want. Now im not knocking yamahas at all, as i have never had one or ridden one, but all i can say is the rxpx i have no issues with so far. (ski has only done 15 hours tho..) Goodluck anyway mate might catch ya out on the water

There are a few dealers in

Mon, 2013-01-14 20:23

There are a few dealers in Perth. Having raced jetski's for many years each has a purpose and suits specific needs. Do your research and read plenty of forums. Keeping in mind there seems to be more seadoo haters out there than most. but its that whole ford versus holden thing.

If you are buying the ski mainly for fishing and not for outrunning your mate than I would go the bigger three seat models. Either the seadoo or Yamaha non superor turbo charged. If you want to fish and beat your mate to the spot then the new rxp or rxt seadoo would be my choice.

Try the yami dealer in wangara or the seadoo dealer in Belmont. there may still be other dealers in mandurah but have never dealt with them before. Or there is another mob in portkenedy that sell imported ski's not factory ski's and have a large range of second hand ski's as well. Second hand ski's are like buying a lottery ticket not all are winners but if you do the research then you should be happy with whatever you choose.

I bought from the seadoo

Tue, 2013-01-15 11:09

I bought from the seadoo belmont store. Found them pretty good to deal with. The reason i went for the rxpx for fishing was because of the size. Being a 3 seater makes it pretty large and stable. I went for the rxpx also because i wanted the supercharged model, as i still enjoy having some fun on it too and towing biscuits etc. ts heavy on fuel doing stuff like that, but you dont buy a supercharged ski if your worried about fuel usage, thats like buying a v8 and complaining about fuel usage. None the less, they are definitely very very reasonable on fuel when driven without a heavy throttle finger and driven in touring mode. Good luck and let us know how you go. It also depends on your budget?
