Whiting

 G’day guys,

Does anyone know where the whiting are biting at the moment ?

And what technique are you using ? Iv heard some people swear by using surface lures and others say live prawns or worms. Also day or night ?

Thanks in advance guys

boat or shore based ?

in a boat- anywhere you can find sandy areas, and then work your way around until you find them

yes, there is a keen group of anglers now chasing whiting on poppers inshore, and even in the river(s) in the vicinty of Perth

These whiting popper-anglers are, I believe only in shallow, wade-able water depths

go to your local (decent) tackle store and ask them

Whiting Popping...

...best places are Peel/Harvey (Mandurah) or Leschenault (Bunbury/Australind) inlets, with the Swan a viable, but tougher option. PM me if you want to follow up on this!

Lures

Barra,

For poppers anzthing in the 50-70mm range is ok, stuff like a sugarpen.

Anything clear usually does better, clear with a tinge of pink at the moment is the go probably due to the large number of prawns in the river, so match the hatch.

Usually run a heavier fluro leader as you want the lure to track dead straight, something like 12-15lb.

Go with a constant retrieve, if that doesn't work maybe look to change it up a bit. If it's really calm a walk the dog style might be the go.

Best of luck!

Andrew

Chicken

I've found a running sinker rig with lightest weight as possible, size 10 long shank hook with chicken, works well. Hillary's Marina and fishing beaches are good spots.

Try using a smaller hook. I usually use a size 6 or smaller for sand whiting
