Thank you z00m for posting that picture it adds a whole lot more to the knowledge bank, I didn't think whiting would show up so clear. A very good sounder shot was posted a couple of weeks ago also.
Thanks Megladon. I wanted to post something as I am always reading the sounder threads on here and am learning a lot. Hopefully I can get some good pics of other species when I find them.
The fish were in the 28cm to 32cm range and quite solid.
We were outside the reefs there. Did a drift in from about 21 metres, found the fish and dropped the anchor. Anchor was a bit munted from earlier encounter with the reef so so we dragged slowly towards the reef. Once we got close to the reef the whiting disappeared and we started getting undersize snapper, wrasse etc. Went back out and did the same drift/drag again and back on them. We caught a dozen in quick time and called it quits as the wind was really starting to stand up the chop. They would only take squid or prawns. Didn't take the occy or mulie baits.

How big were the fish you were catching zoom? Were you between the reefs or outside both? We got a good feed outside Stagge Reef last weekend.
