Wilbinga Closure
Submitted by Mulie on Mon, 2015-12-21 22:09
Took my nephew for a fish today and there is a notice saying that the Dewars track will be closed as of Jan 16th. There were a couple of rangers there putting an injured roo down and they confirmed it. Apparently the land is privately owned, but the track is an easement that is upkept by the shire.
There will be no where left in Perth now to take the family for a beach fish and to experience a bit of freedom, the way we grew up. The only upside is that the developers are bleeding coin up that way due to poor sales while they keep closing off our fishing access.

Not against developers
I'm not against developers but, some of them really do go over the top with restrictions they place on people going onto areas that are totally devoid of any human created structure using the statement that you "will damage the site", then a month later will have a big D9 dozer making the land scape look like a lunar surface.
I have heard the argument about "we could be sued if someone comes unstuck" also.
Unfortunately I think it is a sign of the times we live in, it's easier to say no you can't than yes you can go and enjoy your countries wide open spaces while we still can.

Our communities reap the long term results of actions like these
Gated communities will be next. People making rules cannot expect everyone to have their beliefs and desires, so now another group of youth will be marganlised.

it`s not the closure of wilbinga
it`s only the dewars track closure, you can still get access via tracks off wanneroo road for now
until the shire of gingin get sick of all the idiots and the rubbish.

Idiots
I agree. Getting pretty sick of going for a fish and having to dodge the flat cap f-wit brigade as they treat the place as their own personal track. Closures have been enforced pretty strictly in the last 10 years, and in the same time frame trail bikes have surged in popularity. It's a pity that people can't tow the line.

Went on the weekend through
Went on the weekend through a track just after military road about 40km north of wanneroo. Its a fair trek to the beach but plenty of fun. If you do go up that way the sand is real soft along the beach at the moment (12-14psi).
Agree its not hard to take rubbish when you go, pretty disappointing to see bottles laying in the dunes.
